On Friday, Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota responded to Vice President Mike Pence and comments he made to Fox News that she did not know what she was talking about. Immediately, Representative Omar goes straight to the comments regarding women of color.
Representative Omar please understand that not everything that is said to you is in regards to the fact that you are a woman or because you are a woman of color. People are allowed to say that you do not know what you are talking about when they disagree with you.
I would dispute the claim that it has anything to do with the fact that you are a woman of color. You are not the first woman of color to be elected to Congress. In fact, there have been many women of color in Congress before you. The first African American female was elected to Congress in 1968. Since then, there have been 47 African-American females elected to Congress.
Continuing to drive the point that this is because you are a woman of color does nothing to help unite the country against racism or discrimination as you would call for. The anti-Semetic comments and many more of the comments you make continue to drive division between you and your fellow Americans.
