Presidential campaigns are nothing new for American citizens, as we have become used to the long election cycles that seemingly never end. What is new however, is for Presidential candidates to campaign outside of the country during a primary election. Primary winners have visited foreign countries as part of the process in the past, but we are still in the primary season.
Before you quickly jump to conclusions that it has happened before, I can find no record of it after some thorough research and discussion. In 2016, there are articles referring to how Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both benefitted from fundraising outside of the country, as did John McCain and President Obama. This is in stark contrast to 2016 when Democratic primary candidates have began to regularly visit our northern and southern neighbors as a campaign stop.
It started in June, when Beto O’Rourke went to Mexico to visit with asylum seekers that had been turned away from the US. O’Rourke used the stop as an opportunity to speak out against Trump campaign policies.
The foreign campaigning continued into July when Cory Booker went to Mexico to escort asylum seekers across the border. Booker timed his visit with the release of his immigration plan the day before.
On Sunday, Bernie Sanders added his name to the list with a stop in Windsor, Ontario. Sanders trip did not involve immigration but high prescription drug prices and he made the journey with several American’s to a pharmacy with some great scripted lines for the media.
So while 2020 Democratic hopefuls are too busy campaigning in other countries, cities like Baltimore, Maryland are suffering. President Trump called out the failure of Democrats in Baltimore for disgusting conditions, yet was called racist for his comments. Even Bernie Sanders likened Baltimore to a 3rd world country.
The fact is Democrats aren’t concerned about Baltimore, San Francisco, Chicago or any other large city under Democratic control. They are only concerned with power and remaining in power. Major cities in the US are overwhelmingly under Democratic control and suffer with issues like these in Baltimore every day. Yet, Americans in these cities will overwhelmingly vote Democratic year after year because the Democrats pander to special interests and claim they will “make it better.”
Americans must move beyond the Democrat lies and realize, the Democratic Party is not the friend of the American people. They are too busy supporting illegal immigrants, Canadian businesses and anything that is not American. Campaigning in a foreign nation is just part of the story, these Democrats simply aren’t interested in America.
