In a recent NY Times opinion piece, Stanley Greenberg suggests that the Republican Party will experience death in the 2020 election. Greenberg used several things to attempt to prove his point, from 2018 election results to Republican Party actions back during the Obama administration. Greenberg proves just how out of touch Democrats are with a large majority of Americans.
Greenberg suggests that American’s are fed up with CEO’s, specifically referring to the war on business that Democrats have waged. Progressive Democrats have painted anyone with a salary above median income as evil, all while racking up millions of dollars themselves. For example, plans vary by Democrat, ranging from salaries above $100,000 to salaries above $1 million.
A $100,000 does not necessarily mean someone is rich, particularly in some urban settings. Yet, Democrats feel this gives you some sort of entitlement. We have proposed healthcare taxes, proposed college tuition taxes, proposed immigrant healthcare taxes and a proposed millionaire tax. If Democrats have their way, everyone will be taxed into oblivion.
But Republicans are out of touch. Those same Republicans who are evil and have used a free market system to earn their money and build their businesses. The same free market system that allows anyone to put the time and effort into working hard and building their wealth. The same free market system that allowed Bernie Sanders to purchase several million dollar homes and be worth multiple million dollars while being nothing more than a government activist his entire life.
Republican supported policies have worked for years, even for Democrats. Yet, they do not want you to enjoy those same successes as they do. Since they know best, Republicans or conservatives are out of touch. The American way is the progressive way according to Democrats and their strategists, like Greenberg. Unfortunately, that’s simply not the case.
Recent internal polling shows that moderate Democrats are not even excited about the progressive Democrat agenda. Democrat constituents are more concerned about immigration and healthcare costs than impeaching Trump or mandating gun buybacks. Yet, Republicans are the ones out of touch and going to die in the upcoming election?
I think the fact is that most politicians are out of touch with Americans. The media drives the narrative and Democrats jump on and push the chosen issue. Americans are concerned with how things effect them, not with how things effect politicians or how politicians feel they know best. The 2020 election will not be the death of the Republican Party, but it will certainly shape how both parties approach the future.
