After the recent Democratic debates, there was a lot of discussion about Joe Biden and his potential issues fulfilling the presidency. In a recent opinion piece over at The Hill, Jessica Levinson suggests that all but 2 candidates should drop out of the race. This was a pretty aggressive suggestion and definitely caught my attention.
Rather than truly dealing with the suggestion though that candidates should drop out, Levinson spent much of the article attacking President Trump with the same useless rhetoric we’ve been hearing for months. Levinson suggests that rather than attack each other, Democrats should unite against Trump. While it’s a great suggestion, there’s just one problem. Democrats cannot agree on anything.
For example, Levinson, an obvious Trump hater and leftist, suggests that they should stop fighting among themselves. Yet the proposals and platforms from each candidate vary so much. From Medicare for all to Medicare for some. From gun legislation to gun confiscation. Democrats cannot agree on one single issue, except for their hatred of President Trump.
Michael Goodwin suggests that Biden should drop out of the race now, due to his mental and physical deficiencies. Ryan Cooper suggests that even though Biden is disliked, they do not need to unite behind one candidate to oust Biden or defeat Trump at this point. Democrats have yet to figure out the thing that Republicans figured out in 2016.
In 2016, President Trump became the front runner because he was not afraid to speak out about the inconsistencies in government and the need to focus on America first. Americans are not concerned with politicians and parties as much as they are concerned about themselves. Just earlier this week, I cited a recent poll that Democratic voters are upset because they do not feel their party is actually focused on the issues.
If you have followed my writings for any length of time, you know that I am certainly not the craziest of Trump supporters, because he does some things that I find disgusting and honestly disappointing. What I can support, is a President that is focused on trying to do the best thing for our country and helping our people. While Trump isn’t perfect, there is a lot of arguments for the work he has done to improve the economy and American families well-being.
If Democrats expect to have any shot at defeating the incumbent President, they do need to unite. Not simply behind one or two candidates, but unite to focus on the issues that truly matter to Americans. O’Rourke will tell you that it is not a gun confiscation program, based on recent polling numbers after his suggestive comments. Healthcare reform is a hot topic, but Medicare for All is not the solution that is popular except for the extreme progressives.
The focus needs to be on everyday Americans. Not just the urban Democrats, but even those rural Americans who Democrats continue to ignore. Democrats spend more time pandering to special interests than addressing issues and quite honestly, Americans are tired of it. If Democrats cannot figure this out, they are doing nothing but guaranteeing Trump another term. Quite honestly, I prefer another 4 years of Trump to the communism the current Democrats seem to want.
