I read an article out of Orlando, Florida earlier today that talked about the upcoming state Democratic convention. The convention was planned as an effort to energize the party. The end goal, to win the White House in 2020 through delivering the swing state to a Democratic candidate.
This is a rather large event for Florida Democrats, hosted at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Surely, Florida is in the Democrats plan to help secure the White House. The state helped Trump win in 2016. There’s only one problem, not a single 2020 Democratic presidential candidate will be in attendance.
On first read, I thought maybe this wasn’t worthy of an article. After some consideration, I think this is worth looking at a little further. The article from Orlando Weekly cites that 9 candidates will be attending a town hall event instead of the Florida gathering. This event just happens to be a LGBTQ town hall event.
So yes, rather than focusing on an entire state and energizing their Democratic base, the candidates have chosen to pander to the LGBTQ community. The population of Florida is estimated at 21.3 million, while surveys show that the LGBTQ community only accounts for 4.5% of the US population, or 14.7 million. The Democrats are only concerned with pandering to the minority rather than American’s as a whole.
If you look at the big picture, Florida would be a great place to reach the LGBTQ community as well. Florida has one of the highest populations of LGBTQ in the country. That’s not the concern of these Democrats however. They’re ignoring the fact that they are running for office for the entire country, simply focused on the socialists and the LGBTQ community.
I’ve written about the lack of support for socialism in the US in the past. Democrats pandering to both the minority wanting socialism and the LGBTQ community does not seem to be a winning plan. In an article yesterday, I brought up the move by independents toward President Trump. If Democrats continue to ignore everyday Americans, this will continue.
Democrats must learn that they are running for an office that represents everyone. The special interest groups will not be able to carry them to a general election win. If you are a Democrat that does not fall into one of these special interest groups, I’m sorry. Your party has simply forgotten about you and left you behind. Might I suggest some reading for you to help you cope with your party’s desertion of you and your principles.
