There was a lot of backlash from both sides of the aisle for President Trump and his actions in Syria involving Turkey. Many saw the removal of US troops as abandoning the Kurds. Now there are concerns with what Turkey is doing in Syria.
It’s certainly concerning if Turkey is doing some of these things in Syria and now the situation is back to President Trump. Trump fulfilled his promise in the removal of troops from Syria, but it may come at a cost. On Sunday, Trump indicated that he may be working on a response.

Trump defended his decision in several tweets on Sunday as well. Trump discussed the many years we have spent in the Middle East and the failure of some to realize the damage our involvement caused. Sure, many in the US have advocated for the removal of US troops from the Middle East. We have been involved in a lot of controversial situations over the years, but the US must remain cautious.
Trump continued his removal of US troops on Sunday ordering the removal of the remaining US troops in northern Syria. The largest concern is what happens in Syria with the US no longer involved. As Turkey continues it’s military operation, what will the Kurds do?
Initial reports indicate that they will partner with Putin and Assad. This should be concerning to the US. Russia has been seeking more influence and power in the region and this move could prove detrimental. In this article, the writer discusses how Putin will use this to continue to influence neighbors in the region.
I do believe Putin is getting ready to make a very big power move in the region. While Trump negotiates how to respond to Turkey’s actions, he may need to ready a plan for a response to Russia. In the end, Moscow has remained quiet in relation to a lot of US policy recently. Putin is simply waiting it’s time.
