On Thursday, several news outlets reported that former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg was considering a run for president. Bloomberg had considered running earlier in the year, but opted instead to focus on other projects. Bloomberg is said to be filing the paperwork in order to keep his options open.
This would make him the 18th active candidate for Democrats. Many more candidates have dropped out, 9 total, since the process began. There has also been speculation that Hillary Clinton will jump into this race, although it has yet to be confirmed.
Elizabeth Warren did not seem phased by Bloomberg’s entry into the race. After a quick welcome, she quickly took a shot at his weakest point. He is a billionaire, whom the Democrats have labeled as horrible evil people.
Welcome to the race, @MikeBloomberg! If you're looking for policy plans that will make a huge difference for working people and which are very popular, start here: https://t.co/6UMSAf90NT

So what all does this mean? Well it certainly means that Democrats are still unhappy with their current slate of candidates. Elizabeth Warren, who recently was the front runner, has slowly began fading back into the field. Warren’s lack of explanation for many of her policies hurt her with voters.
Bernie Sanders appears strong, but as long as both he and Warren remain in the race, their supporters will be split between them. Joe Biden’s campaign has not taken off and is struggling to raise money. Pete Buttigieg has done well raising money, but is not performing well in most of the early states. He has also alienated a lot of religious groups as part of his campaign.
So Democrats are searching for someone who can possibly take on President Trump to defeat him in the election. Michael Bloomberg believes that the best option to take on President Trump is one billionaire against another. Bloomberg has a varied past. He has been a registered Republican and Independent. He is anti-gun and is pro-climate change.
These positions are unpopular with the moderate crowd that Bloomberg will need. He is not radical enough to win over the socialist communist elites. So where does he fall? I imagine Bloomberg will enter and potentially take a lot of Pete Buttigieg support and Kamala Harris support. He will give Joe Biden issues as well. The safe crowd is Sanders and Warren, who have the excitement behind them.
This continues to prove Democrats are not happy with their candidates to take on President Trump. Democrats need something through the impeachment inquiry to go their way in order to increase their chances in 2020. If things continue as they are, Democrats are most likely looking at a Trump White House in 2020.
