The cancel culture has struck again, this time in a different way. On Monday, the University of Virginia canceled a 21 gun salute that was in honor of Veteran’s Day. The salute, has been part of the University’s ceremonies for over a decade according to reports.
University President Jim Ryan says that the 21 gun salute is not a “required or typical.” University spokesman Brian Coy sates that the University “hears and respects’ concerns that were brought up. It is the latest example of an organization bowing down to pressure over the use of firearms.
The 21 gun salute is an honorable tradition. In the past, this was the highest honor that was given to military hero’s. Today, the honor is given to military hero’s and government officials at a funeral. While it may not be typical of the Veteran’s Day ceremony, there is nothing that would prevent the salute from occurring.
We are a society that has become so afraid of anything resembling the use of a firearm that we are afraid of safe use of firearms. Society is afraid of law enforcement officers that carry their firearms as part of their duty. Society is afraid of a store that sells firearms. We’re slowly becoming a country that is afraid of anyone owning a firearm.
This problem is more than simply firearms and 21 gun salutes however. We’ve become a country that is afraid of everything. We focus on trying to make everyone happy and we have forget that it is impossible to make everyone happy. This is in part due to the left’s war on anything normal.
Things once considered normal, are now the abnormal. American traditions such as marriage, firearms, children and family are all under attack from the left. Even cows are under attack by the crazy radicals on the left. Now, society is afraid of all these things as they are “killers” waiting to conduct mass killings.
You have heard the same lies for years. Guns kill people. Lack of abortions will kill people. Not allowing homosexual marriage will offend people. We’re so afraid that we are going to kill or offend someone that we do not want to do anything at all.
While the left claims they value the traditions, they really do not. There is a saying that I recall from growing up. The statement goes, “actions speak louder than words. President Ryan had the opportunity to let UVA actions speak louder than the empty words of the left. Instead, it’s just more lip service from the left that is meaningless in the end.
