Democrats have been attacking President Trump since his election. We’ve talked about this several times over the past. With the impeachment inquiry, Democrats have now moved to a dangerous game of roulette. Best of all? It appears that they are losing.
Recent polls are showing that the split among American’s is extremely partisan. Republicans overwhelmingly support Trump. Democrats support impeaching the President. Those left in the middle, the Independents, are quickly souring to the idea of impeachment. In an article at The Hill, Jonathan Easley suggests this is surprising to Democrats.
But should this really be surprising? After all, the impeachment vote was along party lines and public support has been split since the inquiry began. FiveThirtyEight is showing that support for impeachment is falling while opposition is increasing. YouGov is showing a similar movement in recent polls.
One of the polls cited in Easley’s article was an Emerson University poll. In October, Independents supported impeachment 48 percent to 35 percent. Now, they oppose it 49 percent to 34 percent. Democrats seem puzzled at the change in support.
All across the country, polls are showing that Americans are not interested in impeaching President Trump. Why? Because the Democrats have failed to produce one solid piece of evidence that shows he should be impeached.
Noah Rothman of Commentary magazine suggests that the blame for Democrats may be placed on the change from quid pro quo terminology to that of bribery. Democrats feel that the evidence presented is solid enough to impeach President Trump. Yet, they have failed to convince voters of this.
So now, Democrats are playing a game of roulette. The media and other outspoken voices of the left are pressing for impeachment to begin. Leading 2020 presidential-candidate Democrats are calling for Congress to pass the articles of impeachment and a Senate trial.
This appears to be exactly what Democrats are going to do. On the various Sunday shows, Democrats pledged to continue investigating Trump and to proceed with impeachment. This places the Senate directly in the crosshairs of the roulette game in what will happen with Trump. From all indications, not one single Republican in either chamber has indicated that they will fail to back Trump.
Many have suggested that the Republicans will pay the price on impeachment. The suggestion comes due to Trump’s approval rating being below 50%. Many believe this will create issues for Republicans moving into 2020. Â I certainly do not see this as the case however.
Recent approval numbers show Trump hovering in the same job approval category as Obama approaching reelection. In fact, the numbers have been increasing in recent months in numerous polls. I think one of the key pieces of information to look at is the American’s job approval of Congress. Congressional job approval is absolutely dismal averaging just over 20%.
Impeachment is not helping the cause of the Democrats. If anything, it’s hurting their own party and approvals. American’s are tired of the charade and games that the Democrats are playing. They failed to produce any evidence with Mueller and they have failed to produce evidence with this sham inquiry. This is a game of roulette that the Democrats are going to lose.
