So I am going to ask the obvious question, when do we stop trying to work with Democrats? How exactly would that look anyway? If you are like me, it frustrates me to see the mockery of the House that Speaker Nancy Pelosi has created. There has to be a point where we simply say we are finished with the insanity of these Democrats.
As you ponder that thought, I have a couple things to consider. First, House Democrats have shown no evidence to certainly convict President Trump. While the left will say this is trivial, I am looking for a more absolute showing. There was no clearly defined quid pro quo and no clear bribery. The only possible standing they have is on obstruction of justice and even in that, there is no precedent for it.
Then, I would bring the attention to this article over at Fox News from Monday. House Democrats have suggested that they could bring new articles of impeachment against the President. The Democrats attorney filed a motion in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to force Don McGahn to testify. The Democrats continue to argue that there is proof of obstruction of justice in the fact the President would not allow him to testify.
House Democrats refuse to let the Mueller report go. They cite the upcoming Senate trial and ongoing impeachment investigations as a reason to hurriedly press McGahn to testify. But the question is, if the case against Trump was so clear as the Democrats claim, why continue to pursue impeachment articles against him? It’s because the case is not clear. The case has no merit and they want to continue to pursue as many articles of impeachment as possible. The more articles they can pass, the more they can “prove” to American’s he is not suitable for President.
The Wall Street Journal has a great article by their editorial board talking about impeachment and the Senate’s duty. The argument that impeachment does not occur until the articles are transmitted is false. Impeachment occurred in the vote in the House of Representatives. Trump is the third President to suffer this fate. Now what? Well the Senate needs to do their job.
The Senate’s procedural rules state the trial will begin once the articles are received and the managers of the trial are appointed by the House. The Constitution does not mandate the transfer. If Pelosi continues to keep the articles, let her keep them. Pelosi is trying to force the process of the Senate trial. The Senate can easily change the rules with a simple majority vote.
So now we come back to the question, when do we stop working with the Democrats? Republicans have tried to work with Democrats, but they continually prove they have no desire. The Democrats continue to chase their impeachment hopes and dreams to eliminate Trump. Trump is far from perfect, but he is the President. Over 62 million Americans put their trust in Trump in 2016. For the House to remove him because they don’t like him, well that’s the true abuse of power.
There has to come a point where Mitch McConnell needs to say it is over. Stop negotiating with the Democrats and start the trial. If the Democrats want to participate, they will. If they want to complain, well, they’re going to do that either way. But it serves no purpose to wait and attempt to work with them. If you don’t take the stand against them now, I’d hate to see the kind of stand those 62+ million Americans are willing to take.
