This weekend seemed like it was full of bad news. On Sunday, NBA legend Kobe Bryant died in a tragic helicopter crash that took the life of Bryant and his daughter Gianna. While I was never a fan of Kobe, I would never wish this on anyone. The thoughts and prayers of us all should be for their family as they go through this.
But the news about Bryant was not the only tragic news that happened over the weekend. Two other events took place that are interesting. The first is that Bernie Sanders took the lead in Iowa. This is not just a small lead, but it’s outside the margin of error in the poll. The New York Times poll shows Sanders with a commanding 25-18 lead over Pete Buttigieg trailed by Biden at 17.
Warren was sitting at 15 while Amy Klobuchar was sitting at 8. No other candidate was worth noting in the poll according to The NY Times. This is concerning because this shows the momentum behind Bernie Sanders. We all knew from 2016 that Sanders carried momentum in the primary, giving Hillary Clinton a challenge. No candidate in this race is as strong as Clinton and Bernie could very well run away with the race.
The second story goes along with the first. On Saturday night, the Des Moines Register gave its endorsement to Elizabeth Warren. The largest paper in Iowa says that her ideas are not radical, they are right. They also said she was a uniter, rather than divider. The editorial board says it could not support a massive overhaul as she proposes, but believes she is the best candidate to make the gradual transition that is necessary.
Maybe you don’t understand the situation, so let me explain. Not only is a socialist in the lead in the polls, another socialist is winning key endorsements in Iowa. Generally, primary wins propel someone to more wins as the race continues. What has happened to cause our country to forget the horrors of socialism and how it leads to communism?
But it seems that this history has been lost among Democrat voters, who are more interested in free things than they are a free country. The focus is on free education and free healthcare, where the focus used to be on hard work and achievement. The socialist society is no longer interested in achievement, but rather what can be given away for free and obtained easily.
As The Heritage Foundation says, Democratic socialism is on the rise and its now on the cusp of being a major movement. But socialism has never worked. It depends on absolute power and the loss of freedoms. It’s not just a dream that people will suffer. Everywhere socialism has been tried, it leads to death and suffering. Those who support it would know that, if they knew the history of socialism. This is some real sad news.
Yet, the supporters of the movement continue to blindly follow these two socialist leaders into the 2020 election. The media fans the flames of their fire to help promote their cause. Why? The media will not suffer as part of this. Socialism will guarantee a story for the media. The everyday Americans will suffer. For a society that has so much winning since the Trump election, we will immediately start losing. For me, that’s not acceptable. I am not tired of winning yet.
