On Saturday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was called out for wearing a designer dress for a recent visit on the television show ‘The View.’ In an article, the NY Post calls out that AOC wore a nearly $600 dress to the taping. It also explains she could have obtained the dress for just under $300.

AOC quickly responded to the article claiming that the media outlet is just mad that you can look good while fighting for working families. She also calls out that the dress is a great accessory to universal healthcare, a nod to her support of Medicare for All.
Yep! I rent, borrow, and thrift my clothes. (It’s also environmentally sustainable!) 🌎

Sequins are a great accessory to universal healthcare, don’t you agree? ✨😉 https://t.co/xdQ65lbpXe

This is not the first time that AOC’s clothing choices have come under scrutiny. Back in 2018, she was wearing an ensemble that cost thousands of dollars for a magazine photo shoot. AOC, defending herself, noted that the clothes were borrowed. The problem is that “normal” people do not have access to wear clothes that cost thousands of dollars, no matter if it is thrifting or borrowing them.
But AOC continues soon after with another statement that I want to focus on. She said she wanted to do something to ask each GOP congressman how much their tailored suits cost. AOC immediately goes after GOP men, not the GOP. She quickly wants to turn this into a sexist issue, but that’s not the issue at all here. Not one single thing in the article called her hypocritical for being a woman.
Tempted to do a “woman on the street” bit and wait outside the Republican cloak room to ask each GOP Congressman how much their tailored suits cost 🎤

What AOC fails to see is that the hypocrisy is in the fact that she wants to claim she is fighting for the rights of everyone, while she lives like no one else can. Normal, everyday American’s are not wearing sequin covered dresses onto a taping of ‘The View.’ Normal, everyday Americans do not have access to borrow these clothes or thrift these clothes as AOC describes.
In fact, the majority of American’s do not make $174,000 either. They do not have millions of dollars in money in their campaign accounts or superPACs supporting them. Those campaign accounts pay a lot of expenses for AOC. It’s legal and that’s fine, but I’m just saying this is not what normal American’s have. Normal American’s also do not have millions of dollars in campaign cash being moved to slush fund accounts by their campaign managers.
The problem is not that she dresses nice. Who doesn’t like to dress nice and look great. While sequins are not for me, she pulled it off. I’ll give her that much credit. The issue is that normal American’s do not have this luxury. Politics is a big business. How else do you explain the politicians being worth hundreds of thousands of dollars? But this is not normal, everyday America.
AOC and her group want to claim that they are fighting for everyday people, while they live like anything but. Bernie and his staff using private jets. AOC and her expensive outfits. I’m sorry, this is just not normal for everyone else. But I guess she doesn’t understand this.
