North Carolina – On this week’s episode of The Liberty Loft Podcast, US Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) stopped by to talk with JD and Eric about several topics ranging from House Financial Services to the 2020 election. He shared some insight into how he got into financial services and why he believes President Trump will be reelected. Here’s some things he shared.
The Financial Services committee does not come without challenges due to polarizing figures on the committee. How do you accomplish goals with these polarizing distractions?
McHenry – We do not spent time talking about the things that divide us. We spend time talking about things where we can find some compromise. I see these new members on the committee, on the Republican side, sharp incredible smart and conservative people that want to move good policy and grow our economy. On the liberal side, I see 3 of the 4 members of the so called squad and their focus on media attention rather than policy. It’s really indicative of where the Democrat party is right now. What I see among Democrat members of the committee is their absolute obsession with Donald Trump and everything he does and says. I try to move solid policy. That’s what the American people want and what our economy needs.
We have a different perspective and it’s a different time with President Trump. We’ve never had access like this.
McHenry – No President has shared the way this President does or used social media in a direct way. You can say that this has been done in different forms. Reagan brought in the local press and communicated directly through the television. John F Kennedy communicated through press conferences like no other President had done. FDR used the radio, fireside chat. Think about the way people have changed the way they consume. He communicates directly. Stop with the repackaged stuff, just communicate and he (the President) does it in an incredible way.
What do you feel are the keys to the reelection in 2020?
McHenry – National security. This President has been aggressive with our enemies. He has been aggressive in outreach to say if you are willing to work with us we are willing to work with you, even among horrible dictators. He is willing to reach out and talk with them. Not because he wants something for himself, but because he wants a more secure country and more secure globe. Economic prosperity. I think we may have a little hiccup with the coronavirus that will slow down the Chinese economy, but that will be temporary in nature. We are far better off than we were 4 years ago and that’s why the President is going to be reelected.
