On Thursday, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) came out in support of Joe and Hunter Biden claiming that investigations into Hunter Biden and Burisma appear politically motivated. In his statements, he mentioned that people are tired of these types of political investigations. That’s the first time in a while that Romney appears to have been concerned about political motivation.
Romney was the lone Republican Senator to vote for impeachment of President Trump. Yes, the completely partisan politically motivated impeachment inquiry, Romney supported that, but he has a problem with this investigation. I have a problem with that. I’ve said before and I say again, Romney is not a Republican in any sense of the word.
Think about this. Romney supported an impeachment inquiry where there was no evidence of a quid pro quo. He was all supporting impeaching a President, simply because he does not like him. Yet, we have a former VP who has claimed he engaged in a quid pro quo, but Romney does not want that investigated. Doesn’t that seem a little bothersome?
It’s no secret that Romney and the President have not been best of friends. I’ll remind you that Trump endorsed Romney in his failed bid in 2012. In an election that Romney could have easily won, he didn’t. Trump made comments about this after the fact, which Romney did not like. From the time he announced his run for office, Romney went after President Trump. The Hill has a great timeline of events in their relationship.
President Trump also endorsed Romney in his senate run. After winning the election, Romney immediately went back to his old ways of attacking the President. In 2019, Romney said that he had no plans to endorse President Trump in 2020 for reelection. This after President Trump has endorsed Romney twice.
Since his vote to impeach Trump, Romney has been under constant scrutiny. He did not receive an invitation to CPAC, the annual conservative conference. While media on the left has attacked the reasoning he wasn’t invited, the reason is simple. Mitt Romney is not a Republican, nor a conservative.
He is now a hero of the left. From his vote on impeachment to his healthcare plan dubbed Romneycare, Mitt Romney has given the liberals so much. They use him and his policy as a great example. He has continuously flipped his positions to whatever seems favorable at the time. I guess you could say he is the Republican version of Elizabeth Warren, who was willing to say anything to be elected.
It should not surprise us that Romney wants to put an end to any investigation into the Biden’s. I believe he is trying to buddy up to Joe Biden thinking he will get a cabinet position in a Biden administration. But he should hurry, I have no doubt those positions are being promised quickly to get the other Democrats to drop out of the race. One thing is for sure, Romney tries to claim he takes the high road. But he didn’t take the high road, he took the left fork.
