New York, N.Y. – It will not take you long to look around the internet and see criticisms of President Trump and his response to Coronavirus. Nearly every main stream news site has multiple articles with varying views of criticism against President Trump. Outside of his initial delay in addressing the nation, I believe President Trump has navigated the crisis about as well as anyone could have.
We are in the midst of facing a crisis unlike any other in our generation. The last time we faced anything like this was 1918 with the Spanish Flu. I doubt most, if not all, of our readers were born after this time. In a time like this, routine and normal processes go out the window. Which brings me to the point of the article. There are two criticisms that the left has made against President Trump that I believe deserve some merit.
First, President Trump has been criticized for his promotion of medications for treatment. Various media outlets have all come to criticize President Trump, such as this article at Bloomberg News. Liberal media outlet Vox also ran a critical story. They aren’t the only ones, but two that are still easily available online to view. Both cite lack of evidence and issues with the small scale of the trial as issues.
So rather than Trump pushing innovative thinking to help save lives, they prefer he allow these people to die? It certainly appears that way. Sure, the medications have not gone through complete drug trials, but at this point we need to try anything we can. While science is rigid in processes and thinking, business leaders have learned the need to be fluid in difficult times.
Even if the study does lack evidence and trials, is that a reason to not share the potential of the drugs? Absolutely not. Americans are concerned and scared about what they are going to face. They are worried about their health and well being. But the media isn’t concerned about that. They seem more interested in the chaos and panic.
The second thing that I believe is worth noting again goes against Trump and his innovation. Trump suggested that in the face of mask shortages, consideration should be given to sanitizing and reusing masks. While the FDA has said that this is not a normal best practice, it is innovative and could help in the shortage. The media has jumped on this criticizing his suggestions.
I understand that these things are outside of our normal practice and that we may not consider them the best solutions. But I don’t see anyone else jumping up with other solutions. In a difficult time, sometimes you go outside the box and work towards finding something that will help. President Trump is doing just that. He is thinking differently.
His ultimate goal is to save lives. He wants to prevent the harm and destruction that could happen as a result of this virus. Yet, everywhere you turn its nothing but critical comments about him and his response. If the media is concerned about saving lives, it certainly isn’t showing it.
