Lynchburg, V.A. – On Tuesday, Liberty University’s Jerry Falwell, Jr. announced that students were being welcomed back to the campus amid the coronavirus chaos. According to the NBC News report, 1100 students returned on Monday. According to reports, the decision was made in a coordinated effort with safety in mind. But it does not mean the decision has not come without some criticism.
An English professor at Liberty University, Marybeth Davis Baggett, released an opinion article through ReligionNews.com that criticized the move. Classes have moved online and students are able to complete their classes online, or return to campus. Baggett says this is not acceptable. She claims that teleworking access is widely available and that there is no need to move back onto the campus.
She criticized the move for the health of some who have compromising medical conditions. According to Falwell, Jr, They understand and are accommodating those students and staff appropriately. She criticized the move as a power move by Falwell, but Falwell said that the decision was a coordinated effort with senior leadership of the University. So as you read the story, what do you believe?
As Falwell states, the media has hyped the coronavirus situation. It appears thought was given to the potential exposures and how to accommodate those who desired it. Falwell described the University as being a housing complex with takeout services from foodservice on campus. If this is the case, how is this different from an apartment complex with deliveries through popular food delivery services?
The situation is that this is being made a political issue, not a business issue. She has wrote multiple articles on political issues which were located online at this website. In the articles, she criticized President Trump, praised Michelle Obama and seemed to be drawn to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in an article. So it should come as no surprise that Baggett would come out against the move by Falwell, an outspoken Trump supporter.
It’s just another example of the left who is attempting to discredit anything by President Trump. For example, he recently came under fire for suggesting that hydroxochloroquine be used to treat COVID-19. The left went all in on criticizing Trump. Trump did not suggest that these people go obtain non-prescribed chloroquine for treatment. But we live in a society where personal responsibility seems absent for any decisions. That is what the Democrats want.
Hillary Clinton put out a message on Twitter that suggested people shouldn’t take medical advice from someone who looked directly at the sun during an eclipse. I would suggest that you probably should not take any advice from someone who cannot keep up with their email.
The students at Liberty University are adults and should be allowed to decide if they want to return or not. This is exactly the decision that was placed in front of them. The CDC gives guidance that everyone can follow to keep themselves safe. They have the option to return or complete their classes online. Their return to campus causes issues for the cause of the left.
The left would like to continue to place stay orders across the country. They need this crisis to remain long into the year. The longer it lasts, the better change they have to win the election. I do not expect President Trump to sit idly by and let that happen. I expect the FDA to say that chloroquine should be used to treat COVID-19 cases very soon. It’s widely available and all research abroad seems to indicate that it is effective. The left just cannot handle the control that Trump has over the situation.
