Washington, D.C. – The measures of the $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief plan have not been fully implemented, but that isn’t stopping Congress. Discussions about additional coronavirus relief measures are underway. The Democratic “squad” members have cast their support for several new measures.
In response to the most recent plan, Democratic lawmakers in the House of Representatives have drawn up the Leave No Taxpayer Behind Act. They are upset over an “egregious” omission from the CARES act. That omission, allowing illegal immigrants to receive the federal government assistance.
It should come to no surprise that some of the sponsors of the bill are these squad members. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-M.N.) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-M.I.) have all signed on as sponsors. This is certainly not leaving out Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-M.A). She has spoke out in support of illegal immigrants receiving relief from the government.
The Democrats are in a major push to capitalize on the pandemic. They want to give as much money away as possible while they can. For example, Tlaib has proposed giving $2,000 per American on prepaid debit cards. She then wants them to be reloaded monthly with $1,000 for the next year. These continued pushes for universal income are all part of their socialist plans.
As the article from the Daily Caller highlights, many governors around the country are signing on as well. The race to provide support and free benefits to those who are here illegally is underway. But others are speaking out in support of these socialist measures as well. Some may surprise you.
On Sunday, Pope Francis advocated for universal income in his Easter letter. Other countries are implementing such measures. But should those measures include those who are here illegally? Illegal immigrants already receive millions of dollars in healthcare benefits each year. But that does not seem enough for these Democrats.
In total, billions of dollars are spent supporting illegal immigrants according to Fox News. From subsidized housing, free education and more, illegal immigrants already receive plenty of support from US taxpayers. Now, the Democrats want to also pay them courtesy of US citizens.
Aside from the fact the proposal is to include illegal immigrants, universal basic income in its own right is a horrible idea. The creation of government dependence for basic necessities is not ideal. As one measure is created, additional dependence will be recognized and wanted. We see this already as the Democrats want income, free housing, free tuition, free healthcare and more. Essentially, they want a government dependent society that anyone can take part of.
The issue, someone has to pay for it. Yes, in the end there is a price to pay. Democrats treat the federal reserve as a cash depository that can simply spit our more as they need it. If you want $1 billion, just call them up they’ll make it happen. But the taxpayers suffer when the government gives away free stuff.
This article talks about some of the European countries that have already done some of the things that the Democrats want. Does anyone want to see marginal tax rates on the middle class of 40%? I didn’t think so, but that’s exactly what happens. As this article says, there are tax rates of 40% on incomes over $37,000.
You simply cannot tax the billionaires enough to pay for all these programs. Right now, the federal government is not raising taxes on anyone. This means that all of these programs and handouts are adding to the federal deficit. In case you wondered, it sits at just over $24 trillion.
That’s without all these coronavirus plans implemented yet. If your a taxpayer, your share sits at just under $200,000 as of the time of this writing. I understand that action is needed to help the economy, but we simply cannot afford these socialist plans permanently.
