New York, N.Y. – On Tuesday, online media organization Now This shared a tweet that features Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Ny). In the video, which AOC retweeted, she shares how the US coronavirus response tells a bigger story. One of how we will suffer from climate inaction.
In her statements, she shares that the slow response by the government in response to scientists tells a similar story as what we should expect from climate change. She indicates that there was so much political investment that prevents action as it needs to happen.
‘It overlaps so perfectly with coronavirus’ — @AOC and @itsSaadAmer discussed how our response to the COVID-19 crisis foretells the result of climate inaction https://t.co/ReWOWXw0uF pic.twitter.com/giIPHxXdKA

She says that any inaction always makes working people, minorities and others suffer more than anyone else. AOC was joined in the video by left wing activist Saad Amer. He made comments about how this inaction would cost billions more in the future.
As the comments continued, AOC suggests that the American economy could potentially have to be shut down for years. She made the statement in regards to the lack of providing billions of dollars for testing supplies and to provide free resources for people.
The video continues talking about the Green New Deal in which AOC says that the bill costs “eleventy trillion dollars” and suggests that Republicans accuse it of banning ice cream and cows. AOC continues by saying that the bill is a non-binding bill. She says that the bill is basically climate change accountability for Congress.
But that’s not exactly true. There are multiple suggestions in the legislation and much of it revolves around “acting now” rather than research as AOC claims to support. Some of the ridiculous ideas included were things such as eliminating airplanes and cow farts. These were shared in the FAQ document about the Green New Deal in the past.
She claims that the legislation is scientifically informed, but then claims it’s not binding and does not tell us what to do. That certainly makes sense right?
AOC continues by saying the legislation is a social justice legislation that will drive equality and workers rights across the country. She goes into detail about the oil industry as part of this. If you recall, she recently celebrated job losses in the oil industry as part of the coronavirus downturn.
AOC is attempting to capitalize on the coronavirus situation for her Green New Deal and has for several weeks now. She has claimed this is the perfect opportunity to initiate some of her desired socialistic policies. She’s even gained support from others, as Speaker Nancy Pelosi has come out in support of measures like guaranteed income.
Most Republicans have refused any support for the socialists desired legislation. A few have supported some form of guaranteed income, but all have spoke out against the Green New Deal. It is unlikely the legislation gains any support before the end of the Trump administration.
