Charlotte, N.C. – There’s one question that keeps coming to mind based on recent events. What will the Democrats do with Joe Biden?
By now, almost everyone has heard about the Tara Reade sexual assault allegations. Joe Biden denied the allegations on Friday saying it never happened. He seemed frustrated or frazzled as he responded to the allegations on MSNBC. But then his nightmare got worse.
Another woman has said that Biden made inappropriate sexual comments towards her when she was 14. She claims the former VP commented on the size of her breasts in 2008 at an event in Delaware. She reported the event to several people, who have all corroborated her story.
Both events, while in the past, bring a lot of concerns. The stories keep adding up. People keep supporting the claims. At some point, Democrats will have to decide what to do with Joe Biden.
The New Republic ran an article on Friday that suggests they aren’t stuck with Joe Biden. The article suggests that this is early May and Biden is still only the presumptive nominee. He has not been “chosen” as of yet.
But that’s exactly how his campaign is trying to present the situation. They would like everyone to believe that Biden’s nomination is inevitable and he is the savior from the “chaos” of President Trump. It doesn’t appear to be working.
A recent poll shows that Joe Biden’s lead over President Trump has fallen. In what was once a double digit lead, he is now tied with President Trump. This was the election Democrats thought they could not lose, but that’s exactly what is happening.
The election that Democrats thought they could not lose, they are throwing away. But it’s their own fault. Simply take a look at what the Democrats offered. It was nothing that the American people would want.
For starters, Joe Biden has obvious memory issues and is looking more senile day by day. If you didn’t see him on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’, I encourage you to go watch it. He looked absolutely horrible. With these allegations against him, I doubt he can ever recover. Not to mention, there may be more information come out about his son Hunter that could also pose trouble for Biden.
Their other top choice? A psychotic socialist named Bernie Sanders. While he generates excitement from the young people, it’s only because he offers everything in life for free. The moderate Democrats would have never supported that. Either proposition was a failing one against President Trump.
So what will the Democrats do? They still have options. Biden could still drop out of the race and allow another candidate to become the nominee. For the record, that person would never be Bernie Sanders.
Is this the point where Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama come to save the party? It’s quite possible. We know that Hillary Clinton still wants to be President. One writer at The Hill suggests that a Hillary Clinton – Barack Obama ticket could be possible. I don’t think these statements can be taken lightly.
Some have called for Andrew Cuomo to replace Biden on the ticket. Cuomo has said that he will not replace Biden. But that was before these allegations. Would he consider it now?
The Week suggests that a change could happen by August, depending on how this situation plays out. Biden may not last that long. His comments and statements in the coming days will play an important part.
Also, any more accusations will be a big deal. These are not just partial allegations or suggestions like the Brett Kavanaugh ones. These have some substance to them. There are more witnesses, who are speaking and confirming stories.
So what will the Democrats do?
So what will the Democrats do with Joe Biden? My prediction is that they will be forced to replace him. There are a couple ways it can happen.
Website FiveThirtyEight has an article that talked about what would happen if Trump or Biden were stricken with coronavirus and unable to assume the Presidency due to death. We can use this as an outline to assume what might happen.
If Biden has not made it to the primary, each of the other candidates would still be able to assume the nomination. As the article explains, they’ve only suspended their campaigns. They have not officially withdrawn.
This scenario would position Bernie Sanders as the probably top choice. But it’s far from guaranteed.
A second scenario would be after Biden assumes the nomination that he withdraws. In this scenario, the DNC would be allowed to select a new nominee. There are a few things to note in this scenario.
First, if Biden has selected a running mate, this may be the person who assumes the lead role. That makes the selection of a running mate extremely important for Democrats at this point. Recent polls show Elizabeth Warren leading this race.
They could also choose to put someone into the role that was not running. This is where Andrew Cuomo, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton or any other may step in. It truly is a wildcard in this scenario to determine what might happen.
No matter what, Democrats will be forced to decide what to do with Joe Biden. Do you allow him to continue and lose the election or do you replace him to give you a chance to defeat Trump.
