New York, NY – On Friday, The Atlantic ran an article that said “there are not enough tests to contain the virus.” The article continued with its lies in saying that the economic issues we are experiencing are not from government shut downs, but from fear. I agree that there is a lot of fear around the country, but it’s been driven by the left’s narratives, like this article from The Atlantic.
The author suggests that the US must implement wide spread testing to find infected people and contract trace their whereabouts. To prove the point, the author suggests that other countries have done this in order to reopen their economies. The truth, testing shortages are present all across the world.
The author suggests that simply having tests will prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but that’s not true. Testing will not prevent anything. The virus will spread whether we have testing or not. Plus there is a capacity issue.
CNN shared some time ago that labs across the country would probably never be able to keep up with the testing demand that the media has been pushing. As of Friday, the United States has conducted over 8.4 million coronavirus tests. This is more tests than any other country in the world.
The other thing that the left continues to ignore is that this virus has been here longer than official results can prove. Recent reports are that the virus was probably here in December. Individuals across the country are reporting having symptoms similar to that of the coronavirus in the time period of November through January.
But the main stream media and the left will not share this information. It is more interested in driving the narrative of Trump and how this is his fault. It’s more interested in driving fake news to continue the fear.
Is it possible that the reason we are seeing a plateau in the discovery of new cases is due to the fact that the virus has already spread? It’s quite possible. Random studies performed around the world have shown that the antibodies are present in individuals in the community. While the numbers vary, it is there.
We really do not know the extent of the spread, but to think that we can shut down the economy for years until we know is absurd. The effects of the lockdown are equally as deadly as those of the virus. But people want to ignore the costs of the shut downs.
Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro made a great statement on Twitter about this. It’s time to start talking about reopening the economy, but we do it sensibly.
Are we allowed to discuss the costs of remaining in lockdown yet? Or are you all going to just keep screaming that we're killing grandma if we talk about reopening policies, including social distancing and protecting nursing homes?
— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) May 8, 2020
On a recent article, I was asked an opinion about reopening. I have no concern with reopening the economy, but I do agree with policies to help make it as safe as possible. I’m ok with social distancing. I’m perfectly fine with policies protecting nursing homes as Shapiro suggests. I am even okay with the use of masks.
What I am not okay with is the continued shutdown of our economy that is causing more harm than good. We are causing people to take on desperate measures just to feed their children. We saw that this week in the case of a Dallas salon owner.
It’s time to stop with the fear mongering and start actually presenting solutions. The left’s only solution is for everyone to stay at home and cower in fear. No one should live their life in fear, but they should also not live it in stupidity.
Let’s get small businesses and our economy back to work across this country, but do it in a way that makes sense. The solution is not more government regulation and increased spending to attempt to buy our way out of the crisis. We simply cannot do that or afford it.
