Atlanta, GA – On Sunday, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said that President Trump should keep his mouth shut about the riots. She claims that his comments are making things worse and that he should just stop talking about them. She made the comments on CNN’s “State of the Union” with host Jake Tapper.
The mayor’s comments come as Atlanta has been seen with some of the worst riots across the country. The CNN headquarters in Atlanta was vandalized as part of the actions. Video also shows rowdy mobs in the streets while a police car burned outside the CNN headquarters as well.
It’s evident after the Mayor’s comments earlier in the week that her words are not helping the situation as well. She pleaded with her citizens and said that they were disgracing the city. She asked the violent protestors to go home in comments, yet they continued to defy the curfew on Saturday night and destroy the city.
Many have said that President Trump’s comments calling the rioters “thugs” have caused the issue to become worse. It’s evident from the week that no amount of talking will calm the protesters, and it will require action.
Several lawmakers have reached out to Trump, asking for his assistance in dealing with the protests. Across the country, leaders are calling in the National Guard to help attempt to curb the violence.
It seems that maybe the Atlanta Mayor should keep her mouth shut since her actions are not doing very well to curb the violence either. The level of violence in the protests can be seen in these photos that are shared by the local Fox affiliate. The riots are not bringing about justice for the death of George Floyd.
The mainstream media continues to report these as protests, but these are not protests. A protest is a peaceful gathering and demonstration. The crimes being committed in these activities make them riots.
