Chicago, IL – Just two days ago, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot came out in support of initiatives from the defund the police movement. In her comments, she committed to providing additional funding for community measures and said police should not be the first choice in many crises; She also shared other measures that the City of Chicago could take to change how the police force operates.
Then two short days later, she is upset because the police did not respond to riots and looting in the city, choosing to sit in a nearby office. Not just any office, but this was the office of US Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL).
The two made comments about how they were upset that the police chose to drink coffee, make popcorn, play on cell phones, and take naps instead of addressing the issues nearby. As always, there’s more to this story.
Rep. Rush is no stranger to questionable activities. Rush is the co-founder of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panthers. He was once kicked off the House floor for violating rules when speaking out about Trayvon Martin. He was ordered to forfeit part of his annual salary from the House of Representatives due to failure to pay his taxes.
His questionable activities continue here as his staff requested the officers to come by the office and provide protection. The union chief goes as far as to say that the staff was told to make themselves at home. So they were asked to respond, but now the Democrats are upset that they actually did.
These officers are being labeled as abandoning their duty and failing to respond to the needs of the city. The exact opposite is the truth. They were doing exactly what they were asked to do. This is just another example of the left’s war on law enforcement.
This should be a wake-up call to the residents of Chicago. While your streets were being ravished by looters and rioters, the Representatives office was protected by 13 officers. This is not the fault of the officers, as the Democrats would like to claim. These Democrats feel they are above you and better than you. You deserve better than this.
This is also a prime example of what Chicago might look like without law enforcement. Rioters and looters had their way in the area. If you want to defund the police, there will be no police when you need them.
