Charlotte, NC — On Saturday, news outlets were running the story about Rayshard Brooks. Brooks was shot by Atlanta police after a struggle. The media and the left are reporting that Brooks was simply sleeping in his car, but was shot and killed by police. As always, there is more to the story.
Brooks was in a vehicle that was parked in the drive-through, and he was found to be asleep. When police arrived, the indication is that they believed he was under the influence of something and began a field sobriety test. Brooks failed the sobriety test.
What happened next is under investigation. Gerald Griggs, a leader in Atlanta’s NAACP chapter, said that people wanted answers. They wanted to know why non-lethal force was not a choice instead of Brooks being shot. Stacey Abrams also was involved in the conversation.
The killing of #RayshardBrooks in Atlanta last night demands we severely restrict the use of deadly force. Yes, investigations must be called for – but so too should accountability.

As officers attempted to place him under arrest, Brooks resisted. The officers deployed tasers, a method for detaining individuals that is considered non-lethal. Two officers tried to use this method, but it did not work on Brooks, and he continued to struggle with police.
At some point, he was able to take the taser from the police. Brooks was shot amid the struggle. He was transferred to the hospital, where he died after surgery.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is already involved in the investigation. Griggs has continued his statements that non-lethal force should have been used. It sure is easy to second guess things when you are not there.
One thing that must be remembered if you struggle with the police, something will happen. You cannot expect the police will stand and let someone assault them without responding. This man was apparently under the influence of something, putting the safety of those around him at risk.
The fact that we believe that interacting with officers is always a peaceful situation is insane. This same story plays out nightly across our country as officers place their lives in harm’s way to protect Americans. Then the left argues that they want us to abolish the police because they are not needed.
The left and the mainstream media would like you to believe that this was a police attack and that Brooks was friendly. Any sane person knows that you would not even consider taking an officers weapon away from them, lethal or non-lethal. You will just not hear this in the mainstream media.
The war on law enforcement must stop. Each time an officer is forced to use lethal methods to stop a subject, does not mean that it is wrong. Just because an officer acts does not mean that they are evil.
