Raleigh, NC — Democrat North Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Cal Cunningham has been in a race with Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC). But this week, Cunningham’s campaign has completely melted down with the news of a sexting scandal and alleged multiple affairs with women not his wife.
The billowing brush-fire that has become of a once successful Senate campaign was further engulfed with the latest messages released by the National File. In those messages, one of his alleged mistresses, Arlene Guzman Todd, said Cunningham mocked the potential suicidal situation of her military veteran husband.
In text messages, Arlene Guzman Todd tells her friend that her husband Jeremy Todd “was all suicidal and shit a couple of nights ago” and “Had a gun out.” Guzman Todd added, “I could not be bothered.”
Guzman Todd then said that Cunningham mocked the potential suicide situation by telling her, “You’re going to be the best therapist ever at this rate. Sorry you’re having to deal with it.”
According to WRAL, the Army Reserve is now investigating Cunningham because of the relationship with Guzman Todd.
The Army Reserve said Wednesday that it has opened an investigation into Cunningham, who is a lieutenant colonel in the Reserve.
“The Army Reserve is investigating the matters involving Lt. Col. James Cunningham. As such, we are unable to provide further details at this time,” said Simon Flake, chief of media relations and public information for the Army Reserve Strategic Communications.
Adultery is considered “unacceptable conduct” by the military and might be “service discrediting.”
This story matters to the nation but it definitely matters to the people of The Tar Heel State. NC is home to two major military bases Fort Bragg (Army) and Camp Lejeune (Marine Corps)—in addition to two Marine Corps Air Stations at New River and Cherry Point and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. As a result, more North Carolina adults are veterans than the national average: 8.3% versus 7.1% nationwide.
More than 790,000 military veterans reside in the Tar Heel state, ranking us eighth in the nation. More than 225,000 of those veterans are under 50 years old, providing a well-trained and disciplined labor pool for business.
What a horrible look, allegedly mocking a man who served in the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan over five combat deployments, let alone having an affair with his wife. Especially when you’ve sold yourself as the “family man” candidate like Cunningham has.

He also is really bad with masks.
“Not about my personal life”? This is utter horsecrap!
Red State’s Sista Toljah noted last night that “Cunningham has run this Andy Griffith “family guy, character matters, man of my word campaign you typically see from politicians in the South right from the start. He frequently mentions his time served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of his campaign ads even end with him saying, “in North Carolina, the truth still matters.”
The Liberty Loft has its headquarters in North Carolina and its writers have spent either spent their entire lives or the majority of their lives in the The Old North State and we can definitely say that it is not playing well in North Carolina. Cunningham keeps trying to say it isn’t about his “personal life.” But it surely is about his honesty, his judgement and his deceit.
Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has got to be going out of his mind these days, watching as Cal Cunningham’s Senate campaign continues to implode.
