House Republicans sign onto Texas suit. Is your representative on the list?

WASHINGTON — By now you have heard that Texas filed a suit against the four battleground states over the 2020 election. The suit was joined by multiple states through the filing of an amicus brief. We last reported that 18 states had joined, but Ohio has since joined making it 19.

On Thursday, 106 House Republicans joined in filing a similar brief with the Supreme Court. There are some notable names on the list of Republicans that support the measure, such as Rep. Scalise of Louisiana, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, and Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas.

Across the country, patriots cast their support behind President Donald Trump and against the attempts to push Joe Biden into the White House. Each of these states and Representatives have stepped out and claimed that they will not stand for election fraud, illegal election changes, and are willing to risk it all to save our country.

Now the real question becomes, why did all of them not sign on? Why are there notable names missing from the list of those who signed on? Are they simply giving up?

One notable name missing from the list is Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the House GOP leader. McCarthy voiced strong support of the election battle in November but has since gone silent. His absence from the list should be concerning.

Another name missing from the list is Rep. Liz Cheney, who is the Republican Conference Chairman. Cheney has distanced herself from all post-election commentary it seems and her absence from the list is not surprising. Even still, it is concerning as it seems she has given up.

Rep. Gary Palmer, head of the Republican Policy Committee is also absent from the list. He has been outspoken on election integrity, but his name fails to appear on the list of those supporting the Texas lawsuit.

In my home state of North Carolina, 6 of the 9 Republican representatives signed on in support of the Texas measure. Rep. Dan Bishop, who Trump campaigned heavily for during his special election in 2019, was on the list. One name missing, however, was that of Rep. Patrick McHenry, who was leader of the House Financial Services Committee.

In this instance, Republicans should have been united in support of the lawsuit. It’s important that our election integrity is protected. Before the election, Republicans across the country would speak on the need to prevent voter fraud and protect elections. Now, it seems like half of them in Congress want to simply move on.

I have said many times if there is an absence of evidence and an unconvincing case, we should move on. In the case of the Texas suit, it is not about the evidence, but illegal changes to election laws that potentially altered the election outcome.

Representatives are elected to do just that, represent. If Republican representatives refused to sign on in support of this measure, are they truly representing their people? That seems unlikely as the majority of Republicans do not believe the election results.

As you look through the list of those Representatives who signed onto the suit, do you see your representative? Perhaps it’s time for a phone call and to hold them accountable to truly represent their districts.
