Charlotte, NC — I think there is something to be said about a politician who finally admits they just aren’t that well-liked. The typical response in Washing is to assert majority support no matter what the actual circumstances are. That memo never made it to the junior Utah Senator’s desk. Mitt Romney made this admission yesterday and, if he’s as smart as he thinks he is, should have a serious moment of introspection on the flight home and again with his family over the Christmas break.
I’m confident Romney has finally come to the realization that he isn’t well liked. He once again took a moment to take a shiv and stick it in the collective backs of the members of the GOP once again in an interview with Jake Tapper. You can see a clip of that mind-numbing conversation below:
Sen. Mitt Romney: “As I look at the 2024 contenders, most of them are trying to become as much like Donald Trump as they can be…”pic.twitter.com/rGVDsqWEcJ

Let’s start with the idea that all the 2024 candidates are “trying to become as much like Donald Trump as they can be.” While that statement may make Romney feel empowered and above it all, it’s really just a cheap shot at many of his colleagues in an attempt to marginalize them. It also happens to be untrue.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis may fight like Trump, but he does it in a vastly different way. Moreover, Kristi Noem more of a backbone than Romney will ever have, yet she’s not really like President Trump. Also, how is former South Carolina governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley like Trump? Perhaps the Utah Senator is aiming at Ted Cruz? He’s not a Trump clone either!
Everyone running in 2024, whether you like the or not, has their own unique style and personality. They will likely push back against the media similarly the way Trump has but that’s only because anyone with an “R” attached to their name is automatically a racist, Nazi, bigot according to the media. Besides, the aforementioned individuals are not trying to become Trump.
They simply recognize where the party is and are choosing to represent their interests. Romney should try that sometime. Also, being “like Trump” on a political level is a good thing! To the extent that one would want the next candidate to be more disciplined, that’s understandable, but that brushes over the fact that most Republicans prefer Trump on a policy level to what was offered in the previous three decades. And that’s where Romney’s brush with reality occurs. He goes on to admit that he only represents a very “small slice” of the GOP. Thank goodness!
Fact-check true on that.
So what is Romney’s end game? What is he hoping to accomplish? Getting back-slaps by the media and constantly stabbing your own party in the back while ignoring the transgressions of the opposition doesn’t a hero to the Left make. He still has an “R” beside his name.
Perhaps this is just the last gasp of a politician who realizes they aren’t going anywhere after their next election or re-election attempt? Romney isn’t delusional enough to think 2024 is a realistic possibility for him and he’s lashing out because of it. His ambition has been crushed by Trump’s rise and he absolutely resents that! That’s why you get the angry statements every time Trump opens a Coke, yet Romney never shows outrage toward anything a Democrat does.
Romney going on CNN to throw jabs at people who are ostensibly his allies so Jake Tapper can take a break from the look of constipation that is always on his face to ole Jakey can break out a smile at him? Given that, what exactly is the point of Mitt Romney being a Utah Senator?
The Republican party is imploring the good people of Utah to ensure Romney seeks an early retirement. This experiment does not deserve a second term. We cannot stomach 12 years of this RINO in the US Senate. If you have any more amazing people like Senator Mike Lee out there, we will definitely take him or her!
