Charlotte, NC — On Tuesday, Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) blocked a move to increase the stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000. This comes one day after the House passed the measure that President Trump had pressed for.
The measure was brought up by Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) through a motion as a floor request, which was denied by Mitch McConnell. He then blocked another motion by Sen. Bernie Sanders on the same measure. Floor requests such as these are typically denied as these were.
Mitch McConnell did say that the Senate will consider the measure in the coming days. He said that the Senate will focus on the three issues that President Trump brought up. Along with increased checks, this would be the repeal of Section 230 and an investigation of potential voter fraud in the 2020 election.
President Trump had renewed his calls for the higher amounts on Tuesday. He issued the following tweet in support of the measure.

The request by Schumer did not come without its own entertainment. Schumer appeared to struggle in his request, requiring the assistance of a staffer in order to get through the request. You can see his struggle in this video shared online.
