Charlotte, NC — This week has been filled with jaw-dropping events. Democrats successfully defeated Republicans in Georgia to win the two Senate seats. Regardless if you believe it was voter fraud or not, they now have the majority in both houses of Congress.
Many people then turned their attention to Mike Pence. They believed that the Vice President would act and overthrow the results of the Electoral College. President Donald Trump called for him to act. Supporters called for him to act. In the end, he determined that he could not unilaterally act, causing many to call him a traitor.
Then on Friday, Twitter took the extraordinary step to ban President Donald Trump and many of his staunchest supporters from Twitter. His official government account is still active. His personal account and the millions of followers who would read each tweet in earnest to learn more about what the President was thinking is now gone.
Many Republicans in Congress have deserted Trump and his followers. Those who haven’t, are facing backlash and calls to resign. Some are calling them co-conspirators in an attempt to overthrow the government.
It’s not surprising that these things have happened. I think we all expected that they could happen and would happen if Trump lost the presidency. What’s surprising is how quickly it happened. In just four days, all of these events have turned many conservative worlds upside down.
So how will conservatives move forward after these last four days?
Conservatism is an important trait in our nation. It’s a critical alternative to the socialism and radical ideas that the left would like to have in place across our country. Many placed all their faith in President Donald Trump, but he is just one man.
The solution was never fully in President Donald Trump. What conservatives had in President Donald Trump was an outspoken leader. One who was not afraid to say what he believed and what his supporters wanted. It’s something that many conservatives have wanted out of their representatives for quite some time.
While the events of this week may be a setback to the conservative agenda, it does not mean that it is the death of conservative values. It simply means that conservatives are once again searching for that once in a decade voice.
In recent history, we have had some outspoken conservative leaders. In the late 70s and into the 80s it was President Ronald Reagan. In the 90s, Newt Gingrich stepped up as Speaker to lead the fight for conservative values. Since that time, few politicians, other than Trump, showed that they were willing to fight as he did.
Conservatives were looking for someone that would stand up for their values, speak them out in public, and fight for them. That’s exactly what President Donald Trump did.
The left will continue to go after President Trump in the coming days. I expect that they will target him for prosecution and attempt to put him in jail as soon as he is out of office. That does not mean they will be successful and it does not mean that he will be silent.
As conservatives, we must come together and insist that our representatives do their job. They must start representing rather than bowing down to the left and the socialist agenda. This is not about paying lip service, but about standing for conservative voices.
We cannot and will not give up.
