Charlotte, NC — I’m old enough to remember playing with Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head as a child but the Mr. and Mrs. will be no more. That’s right — the root vegetable with no voice, body, or genitals will now come in a form that’s neither woman nor man.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: Potato Head. Simple, beautiful, brave.
“Many toy makers have been updating their classic brands in recent years,” says The Associated Press, “hoping to relate to today’s kids and reflect more ‘modern families.’”
The brand released a statement recently that stated, “While we’re renaming the Mr. Potato Head brand to Potato Head to better reflect the full line, the iconic Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head characters aren’t going anywhere and will remain Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.”
Hold that Tot – your main spud, MR. POTATO HEAD isn’t going anywhere! While it was announced today that the POTATO HEAD brand name & logo are dropping the ‘MR.’ I yam proud to confirm that MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD aren’t going anywhere and will remain MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD pic.twitter.com/6I84KrxOLQ

“When toys are narrowly divided into ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ or signposted along the pink/blue divide,” the group asserts, “we risk limiting the possibilities and interests of our children.”
Senior Vice President and GM with Hasbro Kimberly Boyd, who works specifically on branding the toy apparently speaks for millions of Americans saying, “Kids like dressing up the toy, then playing out scenarios from their life. This often takes the form of creating little potato families, because they’re learning what it means to be in a family.”
“Culture has evolved,” said Boyd. “Kids want to be able to represent their own experiences. The way the brand currently – exists- with the “Mr.” and “Mrs.” -is limiting when it comes to both gender identity and family structure.”
Per the AP, progressive potatoes will be rooted in diversity:
As part of the rebranding, Hasbro will release a new Potato Head playset this fall that will let kids create their own type of families, including two moms or two dads.
In the past couple of years, Hasbro has marketed and sold an assortment of Potato Head products. To keep up with the newly planted cultural trends, several other companies have made changes to their toys in previous years in order to be more inclusive to all types of genders and ethnicities.
Hasbro isn’t the only toy maker to embrace this cultural connection. In fact, they have an ally. Mattel, Inc., the company which produces Barbie dolls released a “Maya Angelou” Barbie doll in Jan. 2021 ahead of Black History Month.
The push for toy companies to be more inclusive has picked up steam as of late. In fact, there isn’t an area of our lives where we are seeing this push to become more inclusive while losing valuable and common methods of identification and differentiation of who we are as human beings. In fact, this became a prominent issue for the dissemination of the 2020 Census.
The Census only gives respondents two options: male or female? However, many activists are upset with the way the question is worded on the census as it doesn’t include individuals who don’t identify with either of the two. Elaine Brune is a retired school teacher in St. Louis and also board chair of the Metro Trans Umbrella Group, an organization that supports trans and gender-nonconforming St. Louisans.
Brune would mark “gender nonbinary” or “gender-nonconforming” in their response to the census if those options existed. “I lose my identity,” they said. “It’s the same with my driver’s license or my passport — you have to indicate ‘male’ or ‘female,’ and that’s just not who I am.”
So what do we know right now?
There’s a lack of population data about how many trans and nonbinary people live in the United States said Danya Lagos, a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas at Austin’s Population Research Center, who studies the social demography of LGBTQ populations. Lagos added some of the best numbers available come from a single 2016 study from the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law.
That study revealed at least 0.5% of Americans identify as transgender or gender-nonconforming, which equates to about two million people.
Ultimately, the Left normalizes the idea of gender fluidity by breathlessly insisting that gender is an entirely different sort of thing from sex and they’re passing this on to everything people touch. Yes, a man is male, they said, but he may still be a woman. Now they say, never mind, if he’s a woman then he can’t be male, silly. Transwomen aren’t just women, they’re female.
And just like that we went from fluid gender to fluid sex. First gender was subjective, and now biology itself is subjective. For all of the talk of people “attacking” and “denying” science, this is an actual example of both.
Further down the road we go, as binary sex gets dropped like a hot potato.
But not hot in the sexual sense — after all, it’s a potato.
