Jesus: the medicine we all need

Jesus, Science, Christian, God,

Charlotte, NC — “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”—John 3:16

Recently, against my better judgement, I engaged in a little social media debate. Certainly, social media bickering is one of the downfalls of our culture, and it’s advisable to avoid such debates. But alas, we probably are almost all guilty of being roped into them from time to time.

The debate centered around mandating the jab. The woman I was debating had no compunction saying everyone must submit to the shot. I argued from principle that no one has the right to force any medication on anyone else. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s effective or ineffective, it is wrong to force the jab on anyone else.

At one point, my social media adversary stated this: “I believe in science.”

My response: “You’ve made a god out of science, and that is evidenced by your statement. Science is a methodology used to ascertain the truth. Science is not truth, it’s a tool to help us find truth. I believe in God, and I use science to learn more about God’s creation.”

That response set her off. She did not believe in God and proved herself a fool as Proverbs 1:7 states: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

And suddenly, my tactic changed. Now, I was not so much concerned about her stance on the jab as much as I was concerned with sharing the Gospel with her. She didn’t like that, at least not then. But I can only hope that she thinks about her soul and comes to understand that there is victory in the blood of Jesus Christ.

Ultimately, that conversation got me thinking about the last year and a half. Do you ever listen to the mainstream media and think that they’ve stumbled on this new thing called death? Honestly, it sometimes feels like nobody died before COVID-19 existed based on the way the media discusses it.

The reality is that we are in the midst of a pandemic, and it is a pandemic that has existed ever since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. The virus that plagues us is sin, and it infects every single one of us (Romans 3:23). And, as Romans 6:23 states, “the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Every one of us will be part of that ultimate statistic, that being 10 out of 10 of us will die. We can’t escape that fact. Death existed before COVID-19, and it will continue to exist until the end of time.

As the media hypes a so-called “vaccine” as our savior, the only real way out of the madness of present day is to return to God. America has abandoned God. If you don’t believe that, explain the over 60 million babies murdered since Roe v. Wade in 1973 supposedly made it “legal” (note that courts don’t create laws). Or how about Americans shaking their fists at God with pride month.

If you want to see what God’s judgment looks like when a nation abandons Him, read the Book of Jeremiah.

If you want further evidence of how far we’ve fallen from God in America, just look at the “go along to get along” attitude of so many American churches. These churches seem more concerned with preserving their tax-exempt status then they are with telling the truth. As Brian Shilhavy wrote: “To follow the American Christian Church today most likely means to follow the crowd that is on their way to destruction, and the second Great Reset is about to happen.”

As tyranny heats up, Christians need to prepare. And they need to engage with the culture. Doug Wilson, a pastor at Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho, has some advice, and it starts with dealing with your personal sin.

“Learn to confess your sins to God, honestly and forthrightly,” Wilson wrote. “He sees down to the sludge layers at the bottom of your heart anyway, so there is no sense trying to blow sunshine at Him. Simply acknowledge it. Ask Him to deal with it as only He can deal with it. You know He wants to.”

Wilson goes on to advise to “Minimize Encumbrances,” “Stock Up On the Word,” “Meet Regularly With God’s Unmasked People to Worship Him,” “Do Nothing That Feeds Your Fears” and “Assume the Posture of Victors.”

We need to stop making friends with the world, like the American corporate church seemingly only knows how to do, and we need to start speaking the truth, unafraid of the worldly consequences. No doubt, telling the truth will get you scorn and you will “suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12-13), but remember that truth wins out in the end.

Don’t turn to politicians to save you. Don’t turn to the church to save you. When we turn to Christ to save us, miracles happen. Salvation is by God’s grace and through faith in Jesus Christ. No matter what happens here in the world, you can escape death when you turn to Christ.

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”—1 Corinthians 15:57
