Charlotte, NC — In a surprising new poll, it seems that many Americans are happy with Chief Justice John Roberts work. Gallup conducted a poll from the beginning of December which rated Roberts with a 60% approval rating among Americans. Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell was second with 53% approval from Americans.
Other members of US leadership on the list are not surprising. The poll took into account people like Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. While most were near or below the 50% approval rating, Roberts stuck out as the one with the highest approval.
Some argue that the poll numbers are due to the desire of Americans to see moderation among the radical views of the court. By radical views, they obviously mean conservative views since that is the viewpoint that is offensive to the left.
They argue that Roberts is more moderate than the other conservatives on the court. They say that he keeps the conservative majority in check before they run toward the conservative side in a ridiculous way. But does he really?
Roberts has ruled in favor of the Affordable Care Act. He has ruled in favor of mandatory COVID vaccines. He even ruled in favor of same-sex marriage and other left-wing championed ideas. That’s not keeping the conservative majority in check at all.
Recently, Roberts said that abortion was a constitutionally protected right for women, even though the Constitution only protects the right to life. He has declined cases that may help secure the Second Amendment in favor of siding with the liberal justices.
According to the Gallup write-up on the poll results, they state, “Roberts is the only one of the leaders rated this year who receives majority approval from Republicans (57%) and Democrats (55%) in addition to political independents (64%). Most of the other leaders are viewed positively by two-thirds or more of one party versus less than a quarter of the other.”
I’d like for them to find the Republicans who approve of his performance. Roberts has time and again turned his back on the stated “conservative” ideals that he claims to hold.
Conservative ideals favor less government oversight, less regulation, less restriction. You could argue that Roberts ruling to support same-sex marriage fits this mindset, but his rulings on the Affordable Care Act and COVID vaccines would not.
Roberts has made no secret that he is more interested in protecting the status of the Supreme Court than he is in ruling according to the Constitution. That is not being a leader at all, that is being a power-greedy bureaucrat.
Roberts and his court will be in the spotlight coming into the new year as the pro-life law in Texas and the vaccine mandate challenge both will go before the Supreme Court. The rulings will have widespread implications as dozens of states work to enact pro-life and sanctuary state laws. Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of Americans that may be forced to take COVID vaccines to work or simply exist in society.
