WASHINGTON — Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D. C.) is hoping to chair the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, according to Roll Call.
The current chair, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon), announced he would be retiring and both Norton and Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Washington) are vying for the spot. Norton currently chairs the committee’s highways and transit subcommittee and Larsen the aviation subcommittee.
Roll Call states the committee “has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation as well as infrastructure including clean water and wastewater, pipelines, flood damage and federal real estate.”
Norton, at the spry young age of 84, doesn’t have a very strong record for her own transportation endeavors. As Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) noted, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California) “is seriously considering this person to serve as the chairwoman of the Transportation Committee” in a Jan. 17 Tweet which includes a snippet of a video showing a horrendous parking job by Norton.
The full video is actually from 2015 showing Norton completely unable to direct her car into a diagonal parking space, apparently hitting a car next to her several times. Another individual is seen in the video who appears to be a parking attendant attempting unsuccessfully to help Norton properly park her car.
“She has hit that red car next to her repeatedly, and we don’t think they’re going to do anything about it,” an individual taking the video is heard saying. “And if she parks like that, she should not be a member of Congress anymore.”
Norton is shown not leaving a note on the vehicle she hit.
An embarrassing video for Norton for sure, but certainly not the most embarrassing video from a member of Congress. It’s not like she implied the island of Guam may tip over if too much weight is added to the island.
It’s certainly also not the most horrendous crime ever committed by a congressman, but Massie raised the embarrassing incident in response to a back-and-forth Twitter exchange with Norton, who loves tyrannical vax mandates.
Washing, D.C. recently instituted a draconian mandate to which Massie responded to in a Jan. 13 Tweet: “The DC vaccine mandate kicks in this weekend. My office will not comply. We will not show papers. We will not order takeout from restaurants that require papers for dine in. We will get our food from Virginia or we will bring it to work. Shame has befallen our nation’s capital.”
Norton responded to that with a Jan. 14 Tweet stating she would provide sandwiches to Massie’s “staff who’re vaxxed + boosted but afraid they’ll get fired if they order in. If that description fits you and you’re hungry, DM me and my staff will be in touch. DC has your back.”
That’s right, Norton who supports tyrannical policies requiring submission to medical experimentation is trying to paint Massie as an overbearing authoritarians for his and his office’s act of civil disobedience against tyranny.
Massie retorted with a Jan. 15 Tweet: “We appreciate the offer …. Just please promise you won’t drive to get the sandwiches.”
