WASHINGTON — As previously reported, a Canadian vax mandate on cross-border truckers has taken effect as of last Saturday.
Despite expert warnings that the mandate will cause an already fragile supply chain to crumble further, the government of Canada followed through with the authoritarian edict. America also plans to institute the tyrannical measure with enforcement starting this coming Saturday, Jan. 22.
While most sane people understand this will disrupt the supply chain causing shortages, possibly empty shelves and higher prices, experts estimated that it would take possibly weeks for those effects to be seen. A trucking executive projected two weeks before the effects were felt.
Apparently, it didn’t take that long, according to a Bloomberg report.
On Jan. 18, just a few short days after the Canadian mandate took effect, Bloomberg reported that grocers are already seeing shortages and they link it directly to the mandate.
Gary Sands, senior vice president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, said: “We’re seeing shortages. We’re hearing from members they’re going into some stores where there’s no oranges or bananas.”
“We have shipments all over the place not going out. They are just sitting at warehouses, waiting, waiting,” said Alex Crane, operations manager for freight broker Paige Logistics.
Already, the cost of delivering fresh produce has increased from $7,000 to $9,500 per truckload from Arizona and California to Canada. That’s in part because of a trucker shortage that has been seen for a while and only going to get worse due to the mandates.
Last November, Zero Hedge reported that there was a trucker shortage of 61,500 drivers before the “pandemic” which has increased to 80,000 drivers while experts say over a million drivers need to be recruited within a decade as older truckers retire.
With this new mandate, Life Site News reported that a Canadian trucking company has lost 10 percent of its drivers due to the mandate. Robert Penner, CEO of Bison Transport in Winnipeg, said the mandate will “drive up costs on all goods originating from or destined to the United States.”
Writing about the Bloomberg piece, Tyler Durden stated for Zero Hedge:
“Canadian truck drivers are furious with the US decision and have blocked the highway near the US-Manitoba international border to protest the new mandates. Videos posted on social media show the chaos playing out on the other side of the border.”
“Cross-border vaccine mandates will only make the supply chain more stressed to the point where it might break.”
Indeed, truckers are fighting back. One video shows a long line of truckers blaring their horns and being turned away at the border while the individual filming said the convoy grows every five minutes. Another video includes a truck with a simple message on the front, a simple rally cry: “Mandate Freedom!”
