WASHINGTON — Last night, I was wasting my time on a local social network called Next Door debating illegal immigration. Predictably, some pointed out how much chaos the Biden administration caused by their open border policies. But one liberal wasn’t having any of it.
The liberal: “That’s not a party issue! ALL administrations have problems with illegal immigration.”
Me: “Can you tell me how many illegal crossings happened under Trump?
The liberal seemed to be insulted by the question: “How would I know? And how would that number add to the discussion?”
Me: “We can compare the numbers of illegal crossings under Trump and Biden, and see how much of a problem the Biden administration is having compared to Trump.”
The liberal: “You are distracting from my point! ALL administrations have problems!”
Me: “Border patrol agents are reporting over 80% increase of apprehensions since Biden took office.”
The liberal: “It’s not 80%! You are a demagogue.”
Me: “You just admitted you didn’t know the number under Trump. How do you know it’s hasn’t increased by 80%?”
The liberal: “You are distracting from my point! ALL administrations have problems!”
How can you argue with liberals, when they are treating the facts as “unnecessary inconveniences” that “distract” from their “noble” world view? AOC once famously said: “It’s much more important to be morally right than factually correct!” We must simply disregard all facts and numbers that point “away” from our “moral” stands.
Most of the liberals, sadly, believe this fallacy. But it has also became a useful talking point for the Biden apologists. When confronted with the avalanche of failures caused by Biden policies, they resort to: “Joe Biden’s heart is in the right place! As for terrible results — Republicans have had problems too!” Whether it’s crippling inflation, soaring crime, or empty shelves at your store — stop complaining, because ALL administrations had problems! Jen Psaki doesn’t understand why you are upset about the toilet paper shortage. She couldn’t find the right shade of paint for her boudoir when Trump was in charge! Maybe you need a margarita — if you can afford one, because it’s over $20 in some places in California now.
I happened to catch a news panel discussion on crime. The liberal host argued: “It’s not a party issue. Republican ran cities have problems with crime also!”
What an “insightful” analysis! Is there anybody who can argue that large cities are completely crime free, no matter what party is in charge? Of course, that would be silly. But the problem is not the use of “also.” The problem is the use of “problems.”
Here, here, and here are the crime statistics for large US cities. Of course, the liberal host didn’t mention any stats on violent crime spike over the past two years, where it happened, and how the far-left policies of the city government caused it. He just went on a tirade how “both parties” should “get together” and “demand” better law enforcement. Well, Manhattan just “demanded” better law enforcement by electing a District Attorney that won’t prosecute any crime short of murder — and even that if you catch him on a bad day. And District Attorney of Los Angeles thinks prisons don’t serve any meaningful purpose at all. But now that George Soros pumped millions of dollars electing District Attorneys that want to turn America into a free fire zone, “the common folks” who just don’t like being shot at when walking their dog can gather for a bipartisan rally and “make demands.”
News flash to the liberals. You cannot be “morally right” if you are not factually right. If the facts are not on your side, you have no moral compass. Fighting for “morality” without knowing the facts is like attempting a medical operation without diagnosing the disease. You are running the risk of cutting out a perfectly functioning organ (like a police precinct) while leaving the source of the disease (like a far-left DA) intact. And when the patient dies, all you can say is: “I don’t take any responsibility because I was trying to do the right thing!”
If you don’t have your facts straight, you don’t understand the problem — thus, you can’t fix it.
