Los Angeles, CA — Earlier this week, a former far-left activist and a recent addition to the band of voices for common sense, Bill Maher, dared to speak out against the crippling Covid mandates:
That did not sit well with the former political acolyte Whoopi Goldberg:
“That’s not really funny to people who’ve lost their kids … or people who have lost family members … listen, nobody on the planet really wants to go through this. This is not something we’re doing because it’s sexually gratifying. This is what we’re doing to protect our families.”
Whoopi is wrong on a couple of fronts.
First, a number of recent “studies” (here, here, and here) found that people do find masks attractive and, yes, “sexually gratifying.” Well, to each their own, as they say — we won’t judge.
Second, Bill Maher was not taking an issue with you, Whoopi, doing whatever you think is safe for your own family. Bill Maher, as many others, are speaking out against you imposing your view of “safety” on your fellow human beings.
For those of us old enough to remember Barack Obama’s thorough incompetence in all things foreign policy, think back to #BringBackOurGirls campaign. The campaign was started in response to terrorist group Boco Haram abducting 300 girls in Nigeria. That campaign turned out to be a financial scam and obviously, achieved nothing. Well, I shouldn’t say “nothing” — it did produce a nice photo op for Michelle Obama.
We all know how Barack Obama’s soft policy on terror was solely responsible for the rise of terrorist groups like Isis and Boco Haram. But as long as you didn’t mention it on Twitter, instead enthusiastically displaying hashtag de jour, everybody thought you were a fighter for human rights. That was the first time when a gut-wrenching hashtag substituted the need for real action.
Conveniently, that works well for the current administration, that is even more incompetent on foreign policy than Obama’s was, if that’s even possible.
But I digress. Every time liberals are at a loss for the real solutions, they want to convince you that by showing “you care” you are really making a meaningful difference.
Case in point: see Florida’s Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo proving that Covid outcomes among the states remain similar regardless of the policies or restrictions they implement. But Whoopi Goldbergs of the world continually use 800,000 dead Americans and their family members as props for self-promotion.
When Joe Biden was running his undercover presidential campaign, he assured us that mask mandates would save hundreds of thousands of lives. More people died on Biden’s watch than under notorious “anti-masker” named Donald Trump. So, there is no conclusive evidence that mask mandates saved even one life. Yet, the Covid tyrants say if you bring that up, you are heartlessly mocking “people who’ve lost their kids or people who have lost family members or dear friends.”
This kind of virtue signaling is not only useless — it leads to real harm. It enables the current administration to use “mask photo ops” to cover for their failure to provide adequate testing and attempt to withhold lifesaving treatments. It also spreads “medical misinformation” (for the lack of a better term): many people believe they are safe from Covid if everybody around them is masked and vaccinated. Neither masks nor vaccines provide meaningful protection from Covid spread, so people are much better off making their own decisions on what’s safe for them, instead of blindly following government mandates. Following or advocating uniform compliance with the orthodoxy of Covid tyrants benefits nobody but hashtag activism practitioners on social media.
