When I ran a Google search on upcoming CPAC this morning, there was one story that dominated the page: Trump – DeSantis “family feud.” Apparently, the two men are at full blown war, and they can’t wait for CPAC to start so they can finally start throwing punches – literally. As outlandish (and discredited) as this “scoop” is, every liberal media outlet has been running with it for weeks. That’s the kind of “alternative reality” they create for their consumers.
Another story that is now enjoying wall to wall coverage is an “imminent” Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Russian invasion is so relevant (and substantial!) that it has replaced every other story you thought was important to your life: gas prices going up by the minute, large cities becoming a free fire zone, and the case of disappearing products playing out in real time at your local Walmart.
Turn on any news outlet – it’s all Russia, all the time. The media sure missed their Russia obsession since the award winning “collusion” days. The Biden administration is currently running an office pool of the day when the full blown “invasion” will occur. The clown currently identifying as National Security Advisor already lost twice (here and here). But he keeps betting.
The truth you will never hear from the media is this: your world map is a hodgepodge of regions, many of which, at any given moment, can be accurately described as hot mess. There is a civil war, religious prosecution, an insurrection, or some other “man caused disaster” occurring in many corners of the world, completely unnoticed by your local Starbucks crowd. That is, until US media decides to blow one of them up, for a reason they don’t like to reveal. Right on cue, the situation is universally declared an existential crisis, and the “foreign policy experts” on social media don new avatars and hashtags to increase “social awareness.”
Ukraine is one of those regions. It’s Russia’s smaller, less capable, less illustrious cousin that’s been feuding with Russia since the dawn of time, taking a break for a brief co-existence as parts of the Soviet Union. Putin-backed forces have been wreaking havoc in “separatist regions” of Ukraine for years, resulting in thousands of deaths. US media was not the least bit concerned about it until two things happened. First, Biden screwed up so badly that even the dimmest people on CNN took notice. And second, the Durham investigation may now have uncovered the second coming of Watergate. US media was fully complicit in both helping Biden get elected and perpetuating the original Russia hoax, so they desperately want to cover up their own culpability. And that means they want your attention as far away from these stories as they could get it – and Ukraine seems like an opportune subject.
That is not to take away from the fact that Putin is a thug, a killer, and an attention seeking maniac. Whenever Putin sees an opening to cause trouble in the world by making the West look weak, he will – and with Biden, that task does not require much of heavy lifting. So, of course Putin is causing all kinds of trouble by amassing troops, trash talking, and generally showing the West he doesn’t give a fig. But when it comes to the actual war with Ukraine – that may never have been Putin’s true intention.
Putin is a smart and calculating SOB. He well understands that war with Ukraine brings him nothing but trouble. First, it disrupts already weak Russian economy. Second, it seriously inconveniences Putin’s own buddies – the oligarchs – whose lives will be made a lot harder by any sanctions imposed by the West. And third, a war with Ukraine will create a steady stream of Russian corpses coming home daily, which will be very reminiscent of Afghanistan fiasco – something older Russians remember all too well. All of that does not bode well for old Vlad, whose days of riding horses without a shirt on are just about over. The only people who benefit from Putin’s “invasion” are the US media who desperately want a diversion from the home-grown disasters brought to you by the Biden administration.
Even though it seems Putin is crazy enough to attempt some sort of military action, the media “invasion” hysteria overshadows the main point of the story. Putin’s antics are part of a playbook that the world’s thugs are now following, fully aware of Biden’s ineptitude. The world today is less steady than a college student after a beer bash. Ukraine is just a small part of that puzzle. There are many more pieces to it (Iran, China, and Islamic terror, to name a few), and the Biden administration is less capable of putting them together than a 3rd grader is capable of solving an algebra problem.
Your world today is complicated and dangerous. The media will not help you understand the situation by giving you the complete picture and accurate portrayal of the players. The media is just one of the players pursuing their own treacherous agenda, and once again, creating “an alternative reality” for those who are naïve enough to consume what they are pushing.
