With Russia currently conducting military operations in the Ukraine, neocons and neoliberals of all stripes are screeching for intervening in this conflict.
However, one Republican Congressman is standing against these hysterical calls for intervening.
Montana Congressman Matt Rosendale tweeted on February 24, 2022 that conflict in Ukraine was a less urgent priority than securing America’s border with Mexico.
“Now that Russia has begun their invasion of Ukraine, cries from war hawks on both sides of the aisle continue to grow louder to spill American blood and treasure in this conflict,” Rosendale said in a statement.
“The United States has no legal or moral obligation to come to the aid of either side in this foreign conflict,” Rosendale continued. “In talking to folks across Montana, they are much more concerned with stopping the invasion taking place in our country by millions of illegal aliens then (sic) they are the invasion of an Eastern European Country.”
In an Instagram post he made on February 15, Rosendale stressed the need to prioritize border security over intervening in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
“We must gain operational control over our southern border before we send military and financial aid to secure the borders of an Eastern European country thousands of miles away,” Rosendale proclaimed.
The Montana Congressman is correct in stressing the need to prioritize border security. What’s taking place in Eastern Europe does not involve any vital US interests. Russia does not pose any existential threat to the US. The real threat lies in the US’s corrupt ruling class that has negligently left our borders open, bled us dry by pursuing never-ending wars, and seeks to destroy our freedoms through perpetual expansions of the administrative state.
Those people are the real enemies of freedom, not Russians.
