Will states be the political units that will bring some sense of sanity to immigration policy in the United States.
Arizona State Representative John Kavanaugh introduced legislation that would have the state maintain a record of crimes illegal aliens commit.
John Binder of Breitbart News noted that back on January 24, 2022 Kavanaugh introduced H.B. 2326. This bill would mandate all superior court probation departments in Arizona to maintain records of illegal alien criminals with identifying information and specific details on the crimes they committed.
Under this plan, any illegal alien who commits a crime in Arizona would have their name, their crime conviction, their conviction date, their criminal sentence, their book photo, in addition to their height and weight sent over to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC).
From there, the ACJC would be obligated to publicly post the aforementioned information to its website.
State Representative Alma Hernandez was the sole Democrat who joined every Republican House member to pass the bill on February 23. On March 10, this bill was passed by the Arizona State Senate’s Judiciary Committee on a 5-3 vote and is now awaiting a full vote in the Arizona State Senate, where Republicans hold a 16 to 14 advantage.
As Binder observed, “the federal government and most states do not keep a daily or annual record of crimes committed by illegal aliens.”
Several elected officials such as Alabama Mo Brooks have estimated that illegal aliens have killed roughly 2,000 Americans nationwide on an annual basis.
What Arizona is currently pushing is perhaps a sneak preview of how immigration policy is going to be carried out in our increasingly polarized political climate where the federal government is incapable of passing controversial legislation. Instead, state governments will have to pick up the slack.
