A member of Congress has called for federal law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute pro-abortion demonstrators where they invade and disrupt churches as “hate” crimes.
The Daily Wire revealed it is Texas Rep. Michael Cloud who called for Attorney General Merrick Garland to look into the targeting of churches.
“The rule of law, including the right of the People to freely worship must be defended,” Cloud told The Daily Wire. “The recent attacks on Christian churches across our nation must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
His letter to Garland pointed to reports of civil unrest outside of Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York that disrupted a pro-life rosary procession.
He noted one radical was “dancing and spinning on the ground with baby dolls attached saying ‘God killed his kid, why can’t I kill mine’ and ‘help me abort my babies’…”
The report explained Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that created the “right” to abortion in America, soon might be overturned. A leaked draft majority opinion in an abortion dispute calls for that result, although that is not final yet.
The Daily Wire said it obtained a copy of Cloud’s letter and it says those demonstrations against faith and interrupting church events are a “diabolical attack on Americans’ sacred right to freely worship and assemble.”
Garland, the letter informs, has a duty to enforce the law and investigation violations.
“On the same day in Los Angeles, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels’ holy mass was interrupted by protestors just prior to taking Communion,” Cloud wrote. “On May 5th, vandals spray-painted and smashed windows of Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder, Colorado.”
The letter notes the Department of Justice’s definition of a hate crime as “a crime motivated by bias against race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability,” the report explained.
Cloud added, “While pro-abortion advocates have a constitutional right to peacefully protest in public, the actions and rhetoric of these groups constitute hate crimes since they are targeting communities based on their religious beliefs.”
