On Sunday, multiple news outlets were reporting about Nikki Haley’s new book alleging a coup in the Trump administration. Sure, we’ve been talking about a coup for some time now in regards to what the Democrats are doing. This one is different however.
In her new book, due out Tuesday, former ambassador Nikki Haley suggests that John Kelly and Rex Tillerson both attempted to get her to side against the president. Haley suggests that they were trying to circumvent the President, which Haley refers to as dangerous. It is dangerous, but it proves the exact position President Trump finds himself in.
A difficult position that is. He is already facing a sham impeachment inquiry from the Democrats, where they are refusing to cooperate with Republicans. I’ve written before about the Presidents issues inside the White House, and this shows that those issues are bigger than thought before. It’s apparent that the President has upset some sort of plan everyone else had.
A lot of people will refer to what is called “deep state” as those plans. I do not subscribe or give a lot of thought to conspiracy theories as President Trump has done at times. Most times these are far fetched ideas that are simply absurd. Yet, this one seems to have caught some main stream attention, specifically at the New York Times.
Recently, the Times ran an article that talked about how the deep state may be real with the impeachment inquiry. Obviously, the Times ran the piece as a jab to President Trump. There was some potential truth to what was written however. The article discussed how multiple bureaucrats have come out against President Trump since the initial CIA agent’s leak.
Trump has caused a significant disruption in Washington that cannot be denied. His call to drain the swamp have the attention of the Washington elites. Yet, they are unable to find clear evidence to convince the American people he is worth impeaching. Impeachment still sits on party lines, just like the impeachment inquiry that is taking place.
Without the backing of the American people, there’s very little success the Democrats will have in the impeachment process. So this so called “deep state” is still working to find more information in an attempt to win over the public. Nikki Haley did them no favors with her book. Her statement regarding the attempts to circumvent the President continue to cast doubt on what’s happening.
The other interesting thing is Haley’s actions in general and it seems I was not the only one that was thinking differently. David Frum also wrote an article at The Atlantic discussing Haley’s actions calling them a big bet on the future of the Republican Party. I do agree this is a bet on the future of the Republican Party, but for different reasons.
Haley will be a leader for some time in the party. She is most likely a presidential candidate in 2024. Haley sees what the party has become and the desire of the conservative base. Maybe it is risky to align with Trump, but it’s a risk Haley understands. I believe it’s a risk worth taking.
