Grand Rapids, M.I. – Rep. Justin Amash (I, Mi) has announced he is forming an exploratory committee to pursue a run for President. Amash, a former Republican, left the party after disagreements. Amash would be running on the Libertarian ticket.
He announced the run on social media where he says he would be an honest principled President who would defend the constitution.

Amash is one of over 20 candidates who is seeking the Libertarian nomination for President. He does have the biggest name among the group. With his announcement, Rep. Amash seeks to join the likes of many previous Libertarian candidates that have run for President and lost.
Third party candidates have not had much success in recent US history. A third party candidate has not won more than 5% of the popular vote since Ross Perot in the 90’s.
