Last night, news broke about a tragic shooting on the campus at UNC-Charlotte. Two people were killed with 4 wounded according to reports. The lone gunman was taken into custody through quick response by law enforcement. Just as the tragic details were unfolding, the Democrats started speaking out against the shooting and placing blame on access of firearms to dangerous people. The investigation had yet to really begin, but they were already placing blame on those easy to obtain firearms.
The problem is that this “dangerous person” had never had any issues with law enforcement. In fact, he was not even on their radar according to statements made. Elizabeth Warren spoke out regarding safety at schools.
As a reminder, this campus was a place where firearm possession was prohibited by law. From the reports we have so far, there was no indication that this was a potential with this suspect. So Democrats were quickly jumping to conclusions. Then there is Beto O’Rourke’s statements which are completely baffling to me.
After a slight announcement bump, Beto’s returned to obscurity in the Democratic field at just 5% in the most recent Morning Consult polling data. Might as well use a tragic shooting to attempt to capitalize for your campaign that is losing steam right?
I just want to call out the great response by Representative Patrick McHenry, from the 10th District in NC and Representative Richard Hudson, from the 9th District in NC. These are great responses to a tragic situation.
