On Monday, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took the opportunity to blame the DC flooding on climate change. According to NBC News, some areas received up to 4 inches of rain in less than one hour. The 3.3 inches of rain received at Reagan National Airport broke the previous record of 2.2 inches in 1 hour set back in 1958.
Flooding in Washington DC is nothing new as the city is surrounded by multiple water sources. A National Capital Planning Commission report from 2008 outlined many of these flooding concerns and things that have been done to address the concerns throughout the years. AOC sought out the normal Democratic mantra of never let a crisis go to waste.
AOC quickly issued the tweet below and there are several issues in the statement.
It was a quick mention of the flooding, but then she quickly blames the Republicans for the use of fossil fuels and failure to make critical infrastructure investments to prep for climate crisis. I’m sure she wants to claim that fossil fuel usage have led to increased global warming and now more rain, but that’s a stretch. Of course, each day we postpone action is a day closer to the 12 year doomsday scenario she painted earlier this year.
AOC did not stop there as she shared another tweet from left wing group citizen.org which complained about lack of media inclusion of climate change in major natural disasters.
She then continued doubling down on everything, in normal AOC fashion, seeming to blame every natural disaster on global warming.
So it’s not just 1 day or 1 storm, it’s all of these disasters put together. There have been many studies that have put the global warming hoax to rest. I think anyone would agree we should be responsible with the environment and studies show we are making progress towards decreasing our carbon footprint each year.
The fact is that if you research flooding in the United States, you find history of flooding and events just like these that go back well into the 1800’s. This is not anything that is new for this area and from some stories there are times that it has been worse. There are many other things to consider when discussing flooding such as paved roadways that have increased in number and new development of areas.
Let’s go back to the video by citizen.org that discusses all the national disasters. The video claims the lack of discussion regarding climate change in many natural disasters. Video footage from the Paradise, CA wildfire was used, except that the Paradise fire from 2018 was started by an electrical company instead of global warming. Paradise was coming out of it’s dry season and going into it’s rainy season. Rainfall data is missing due to the fires, but the area around Paradise received rainfall totals that are at averages expected for the month of November.
Hurricanes were also used in the video. In 2011, the National Hurricane Center changed how it determined averages for hurricanes each year, with the average increasing by one named storm. They now use data from 1981 through 2010 to figure averages, before this the data used was back into the 1950’s. Without a major change in the number of hurricanes, one would want to look at the accuracy of the forecasts given. Since the mid 90’s, there’s not been a big change in the number of storms vs the prediction, with most of the variation being 3 storms or less either way.
In the end, it’s just another method for AOC to push for her “green dream or whatever” as Nancy Pelosi calls it. That $8-12 trillion dollar program focused on eliminating planes, cars and cows that studies indicate would have no effect on climate change. It’s just another moronic push from one of the worst representatives in US history.
