On Saturday, AOC spoke out against mass incarceration with an example from New York City. Her statement is in regards to mass incarceration, which AOC has spoke out against for quite some time. She states that mass incarceration is a way to lock up the poor while freeing the rich. Here’s her statement from Saturday.
Ending mass incarceration means challenging a system that jails the poor to free the rich.
Arresting people who can’t afford a $2.75 fare makes no one safer and destabilizes our community.
New Yorkers know that, they’re not having it, and they’re standing up for each other. https://t.co/asvidIe5zV

There is just one problem with her statement, arresting someone who takes a cab without paying for it has committed a crime. This falls under the Theft of Services law in New York, which is a Class A misdemeanor. This carries a punishment of up to one year in jail, three years probation and a fine of up to $1,000 or twice the amount of gain.
There are a couple of ways to take this statement from AOC. First, she may be advocating for a completely lawless society. Some would believe this based on her previous statements regarding mass incarceration. She previously called for the complete abolishment of prisons and defended her statements in these remarks in October.
First of all, many people in jailed or in prison don’t belong there at all.
Whether it’s punitive sentencing for marijuana possession or jailing people for their poverty & letting the rich free through systems like cash bail, we wrongly incarcerate far, far too many people.

Prison overcrowding is a problem, but the solution is not to simply allow a lawless society as she suggests. Of course, laws are a foreign subject to most Democrats. They have advocated for lawless borders and essentially see nothing wrong with a society that has a lack of any morals. So there is some merit to considering this may be what she is suggesting.
Another idea is that she is simply suggesting that we give away free taxi rides. I find that this is plausible as well, since she desires to give away free everything. This is the communist plan of the Democratic Party anymore. If you simply say you cannot afford the taxi ride, you should jus the given a free pass to jump out and run right?
Why stop there? I mean, anyone should be entitled to a $500 dinner from time to time as well. If you can’t afford it, simply say so and you get it for free courtesy of AOC. I would absolutely love an Ashton Martin or Ferrari, but I simply can’t afford one. According to AOC, this should not stop me however, I should simply just go get it. I’m sure the dealership will have no issues as I drive off without paying a dime for the car.
I know my comments may be a little far fetched, but this should prove the point of how radical these suggestions by Democrats are. There are already multiple ways for someone to obtain free transportation or discounted transportation in big cities. Earlier this year, New York City modified their Fair Fares program to help provide affordable transportation for those who needed it.
That’s simply not enough for AOC. If you want it for free, you should get it. It truly is the plan of free everything from the Democrats. Money nor law should prevent you from obtaining what you want according to AOC. So go ahead and take that new car and don’t worry about swiping your card at the pump. Feel free to go pick up that big TV and no worries about paying for the pizza you order for the big game. AOC has it all covered.
