The coronavirus, or COVID-19, continues to be a concern across the United States. I have shared my thoughts on the matter on a recent podcast about how the media has hyped this. I also believe it’s important to update everyone with factual information about the virus, which is what this article is intended to do.
New cases of COVID-19 continue to be reported across the country. On Tuesday, a second case was confirmed in New York by Governor Cuomo. Total US deaths from the virus now stand at 6, all from Washington State. Santa Clara County in California also has confirmed 9 cases of COVID-19 now.
The CDC lists total US cases at 43 as of Monday with only 2 deaths. The cases will definitely rise after they update today. Of those cases, 17 are currently hospitalized for their symptoms. As of Tuesday, 12 states have confirmed cases of COVID-19. I do want to point out, there is a happier note here. CNN gives a breakdown state by state, which shares that many of those who contracted the virus have recovered and are now at home.Â
Across the globe, cases continue to rise. On Tuesday, CNN reported that 8% of Iran’s parliament now has COVID-19. The UK is reporting that they are planning for up to 20% of their workforce to be out sick at any given time. In Japan, discussions are starting about potentially delaying this years Olympics. Sporting events are also a concern here in the US.Â
The NY Post reports that the NHL, NBA and MLB are all coordinating on strategy that revolves around COVID-19. CNBC obtained a copy of a memo the NBA sent out to teams. In the memo, players were suggested to offer fist bumps instead of high fives. They were also cautioned against taking items from fans for things such as autographs.Â
Yes, this virus is a real concern and there are real implications. All across the world there are concerns and people are unsure of what to do. In the US, the CDC website is the appropriate source of information. The CDC lists information regarding how the virus is spread, precautions and a lot of other great information. Before you panic and believe everything you read on social media, it’s important to go to the best authority for information, the CDC.Â
We will continue to monitor the situation and bring updates as appropriate here at The Liberty Loft.Â
