Several months ago I wrote about how Hillary Clinton could still potentially get into the 2020 race. Just this past week, I talked on the podcast about someone will need to save the Democrats as they are struggling. While I am certainly no psychic, it appears I may have been right.
The NY Times crossed the same subject I did during Saturday’s podcast in this article today. Democrats are unhappy with their current slate of candidates and are looking for someone to save them. According to The NY Times, Hillary Clinton and Michael Bloomberg have both stated that if they felt they could get into the race for 2020 and win, they would do so. This is a change for Clinton who stated she would not run.
I think that the Trump administration knew this as well, since he has been going after the Clinton e-mail issue again. Liberal outlets quickly came to Clinton’s defense claiming she has been exonerated from the issue. Yet, there are still issues and questions that remain.
The Daily Wire reports that over 600 security violations were found in the investigation into Clinton’s e-mails. As we wait for more information, there is no evidence that the issue has been resolved. I expect more information will release that continues to implicate Clinton and her team.
Then there is also the issue of Clinton’s recent statements about Tulsi Gabbard. Clinton accused Gabbard of being a Russian asset. Many have speculated as to why this is. As the situation becomes more clear, it appears Clinton attacked Gabbard to try to keep her from a potential 3rd party run. This would be beneficial to Clinton were she to get into the race allowing her to win more votes. Sure, the left says this is an effort by Russia to help Trump, but I don’t buy it.
I believe that Clinton will join this race very soon. Just when will she join? That’s still up for debate, but I believe she has to get into the race by Thanksgiving. This gives her time to jump into the fundraising and make sure she is on the ballot. The real question is will Democrats let her have another shot?
Clinton maintains that she won the first time, but has stated in recent events she knows she should focus on the electoral college now. She has a new strategy and if Democrats unite behind her will give Trump a real challenge in the election. She may be the only candidate that Democrats have to give them a chance. This move would prove desperate for Democrats.
The other wildcard for Democrats is the recent moves for Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Some recent polls in Iowa show Buttigieg making a move towards the front runners. Will he continue this move in other areas? I believe his statements on Christianity will make the road to the nomination difficult for him, while Clinton could step right in and win the race easily.
