Washington, DC — Appearing on MSNBC on Thursday, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Mn.) says she wants to hold President Donald Trump accountable for coronavirus related deaths. She states that over 300,000 people have lost their lives in the US due to the coronavirus, while President Trump has refused to show one ounce of compassion to those who have passed.
In her comments, Omar said that the actions of President Trump and his administration were criminal neglect. She says that simply issuing subpoena’s and investigating is not enough. She calls for prosecution of those involved and “responsible for these reckless deaths.”
As you watch the video, it is obvious that Omar is upset. Her father passed in June from complications of COVID-19.
“My father and over 300,000 people have lost their lives because of dangerous criminal neglect by Trump and his Administration.
It is not enough to just issue subpoenas. We have to investigate and prosecute the people responsible.” – @IlhanMN pic.twitter.com/n138b6nxEw

I believe that most would agree that they sympathize with Omar in the loss of her father. Losing any relative, especially a close relative, is a tough reality of life. It is even worse when it is in the middle of a global pandemic that is revolutionizing our world.
Yet, Omar’s anger and frustration are misplaced in blaming the Trump administration. Many on the left argue that Trump is at fault for the coronavirus pandemic in the US because he refused to force Americans into draconian lockdowns. Instead, President Trump took the approach that states know how to best handle the situation in their areas, which was the correct approach.
Democrats are the ones that continued to politicize the coronavirus pandemic. They have used shutdowns to destroy the economy and livelihoods rather than protect citizens. They have claimed to use science to make decisions but have instead played favoritism to their friends.
While I have certainly not agreed with everything that President Trump has done in his time as President, his actions during the coronavirus pandemic were a great example of leadership as it should be.
He closed or restricted travel very quickly in the process. The Democrats disagreed with the approach initially but quickly saw that Trump was right in doing this. This bought the US much needed time in order to learn more about the coronavirus and saved many lives.
He established the Operation Warp Speed program, which has now delivered a vaccine that is being distributed before the end of the year. Democrats said that it was unlikely that a vaccine would be distributed by the end of the year. President Trump said it would happen, and he delivered.
The left wanted to declare a national mask mandate and national stay home orders, but President Trump said no. After some time, Joe Biden even agreed such orders would be unconstitutional.
President Trump realized the role of the federal government and allowed the states to handle the situation. That is in stark contrast to what the left would have done given the ability to make decisions.
Thousands of Americans have lost their lives in a pandemic that is not the fault of anyone in the United States. The entire world fell victim to a pandemic in which we know China withheld information and allowed the virus to spread. While I understand the frustration, it is certainly misplaced in blaming President Trump.
