On Wednesday, Democrats hurled attacks on Republicans about their party loyalty. All throughout the impeachment debate, the question about party loyalty came up over and over again. Democrats urged their counterparts to support impeachment. I believe they knew it was a waste of time, but not because of party loyalty.
The question with President Trump never revolved around party loyalty. Multiple times I stated that myself, and conservatives across the country, would have come out against Trump if there was convincing evidence. But please note the key word I mentioned, evidence. This is what the Democrats failed to produce against President Trump. They produced evidence, but none of it was against President Trump.
I read this opinion writing to The New York Times by Steny Hoyer, Rep. from Maryland. In the piece, Hoyer made arguments for Republicans to join Democrats in impeaching President Trump. He made statements like “the facts in this matter are not in question.” He brings up points about being above the law. Democrats did not cite one single law that President Trump violated. All of their arguments were based on hearsay and speculation. In fact, the evidence was pretty clear that Trump insisted on doing things the right way. Because of this, Republicans voted against the impeachment articles.
But it’s not those things I want to respond to in this. It’s the suggestion that Republicans were voting party over country. Trump over the Constitution. Both parties have a duty to the Constitution. To support and defend it, not twist it to fit their ultimate goals. He even describes how that was their ultimate goal. They introduced articles to impeach trump in December 2017, January 2018 and in July 2019. They were not going to be satisfied until they impeached President Trump.
He accuses Republicans of failing to put their country first, but that is exactly what the Republicans did. Their vote was in support of thousands of new jobs that Trump has created. They were supporting tax breaks, decreased regulations and one of the best economies in our nations history. How is that not supporting the country?
The Democrats are the ones that have failed to place country over party. They are simply out for control, but you won’t hear them say that. They want to tax away businesses and business owners. Democrats want to give away our products to China and other countries without receiving a fair deal in return. They want each and every American to have to live in subjection to government, rather than the government living in subjection to the people. Isn’t our government supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people?
But this is not what Democrats see as the priority for America. They believe in the philosophy that government knows best. They want us to submit everything to them, because they know exactly what we need and when we need it. Tyranny is defined as cruel and oppressive government, with arbitrary use of power and control. Democrats can accuse Trump of tyranny, but the evidence shows that they are the real tyrants.
