Washington, DC – Joe Biden has said that if elected, he will return the United States to failed Middle East policy. The statements were made to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. He promised a return to seeking a two state solution, the reopening of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and resuming US aid to the Palestinians.
The US aid to the Palestinians was discontinued by the Trump administration after it was determined that the aid was being used to fund terrorist activities. Trump discontinued the US aid after the embassy was moved to Jerusalem and Palestinians became upset with the move. The East Jerusalem consulate office was closed, essentially cutting of relations between the US and Palestinians.
Joe Biden has called for Palestine to stop their actions of inciting violence while he has called on Israel to stop the plan of annexation. The annexation plan was part of the peace plan put in place by the Trump administration in 2017.
The area continues to have issues of peace which has been the case for decades. While multiple sides have weighed in, the policies from the Obama administration that Biden would like to put in place failed. Obama strained the relationship with Israel and the policies that Biden would implement would further strain that relationship.
President Trump has received criticism for his Middle East plan. His plan, which critics state favors Israel, was immediately rejected by Palestinian leaders. The plan is not under consideration by the Palestinians, who prefer to negotiate with Democrat leaders in the United States.
The Democratic Party has been moving away from their support of Israel. The move comes in tune with many new leaders in the party who have made multiple anti-Semitic statements.
