Charlotte, NC – The AP is reporting that Joe Biden has selected Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as his running mate. Harris has long been rumored to be a top candidate for the VP role. Biden selected Harris as he had committed to selecting a woman as his running mate.
Harris was a previous competitor for the presidential nomination against Joe Biden. Harris delivered some of the most pointed attacks against Biden during the primary as well. She is viewed as a safe choice due to being a strong liberal and minority woman.
Politico accidentally posted a breaking news article about Harris selection previously, before the story was retracted. Biden has hinted the decision was imminent, but no details were released until Tuesday. Back last year, JD Washington, our Editor-in-Chief, predicted a Biden-Harris campaign, even as rumors continued to swirl about the potential choice.
Harris becomes the first black woman nominated for the position of Vice President by a major political party.
